NORMAN WILLIAM ROMAS 1938 - 2015 In loving memory of Norman William Romas (Norm) cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, who died on October 18, 2015, surrounded by the love of his family. Left to cherish Norm's memory are his wife of 53 years, Sophie, his son Mark (Connie), daughter Karen (James), grandchildren Carson, Nick and Holly, siblings Steve, Peter (Adeline), Paul (Cathy), Leona (Gerry), sisters-in-law Margaret Romas and Linda Romas, and brother-in-law Walter Hrychuck, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Norm was predeceased by his parents Henry and Nettie Romas, sister Jean Hrychuck, and brothers Barry, Nick and Ernie Romas. Norm was born and raised on the family farm in Oakbank, Manitoba. He moved to Saskatoon in 1958 to work as a Carmen with the Canadian National Railway, eventually moving back to Winnipeg where he met Sophie Warywoda and the two were married in August of 1962. They built and settled into their family home in Transcona where they raised their two children, Mark and Karen. Norm became actively involved with the Brotherhood Railway Carmen as a local chairman for Lodge 371. After 20 years of experience with the union and community affairs, Norm was elected as the new Canadian Division Secretary Treasurer eventually moving to Ottawa to serve in the same position for the CAW until his retirement, returning to the family home in Winnipeg. Norm loved to spend time with his family more than anything else. This was evident by the time he spent coaching and watching Mark play hockey and Karen play baseball throughout their childhood and then again with his grandchildren. You could count on Grandpa to be at the rink or soccer pitch for every game cheering loudly. Norm loved to travel with his family and enjoyed many vacations abroad with his siblings and their families. Norm could also be counted on by family and friends whenever a helping hand was needed. He will be missed. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 23 at 10:00 a.m., Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., across from the Mint. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, R3E 0V9. The family would like to extend their thanks to the palliative care nurses as well as Dr. Kakamanu and his team at CancerCare.
