NELLIE VISTAN For five years, Nellie Vistan fought a long and hidden battle with breast cancer. Throughout this entire time, she kept it secret, choosing to focus on everyone else around her. From family to friends and customers, she always was there, smiling and listening and providing words of wisdom. Her entire life was dedicated to everyone she ever knew. Even in her passing, she chose to let the world continue making its course and let herself go into God's hands with only her son by her side. At the age of 61 and at Riverview Health Centre, she passed away peacefully on October 26, 2015 at 4:00 a.m. Nellie's legacy is continued by her son, Michael, who promises to be the best that he can - like she was. Even though her siblings and direct family are all located in the Philippines, she leaves behind an entire community of family and friends that all know how wonderful she was. Her more recent life as a hairstylist was not just a job but largely helped define who she was. Not only was she fixing hair, but she was fixing the problems that everyone could easily open up to her about. Nellie's uncanny ability to have people confide in her is one of the many traits that no one could ever forget. Michael, I am so very sorry to hear about your Mother's passing. She was such a beautiful woman and loved to laugh. She often talked about you, Michael and was very proud of you. I know you will miss her but know that she is up there watching over you. Take care Michael. I wish you the best. - Posted by: Valerie Boyce (customer) on: Nov 06, 2015

To our dear Michael : Our condolence to you . We very surprised about the news. We are both sad Michael but we know the legacy that your mom left will be missed. We know how loving your mom is especially with a close friend when it's real and sincere . With her choice not to mention or friends to know her condition we respect that. All we can say to you Michael you have to be strong . As a uncle and Antie to you we are always here for you . With your faith in God he make you strong . Our prayer and love is always with you. Eternal rest grant unto our sister Nelly o Lord and let Perpetual light upon her. May she rest in peace Amen - Posted by: Al and Cora Castro (Co-worker at Bristol and best buddy friends) on: Nov 06, 2015

Michael: I am so very sorry to hear about the passing of someone so very dear. May it comfort you to know that others share in your sorrow. Rest assured that I will include you in my prayers. I am sure that all of us at St. Edward's who remember you so fondly will do the same. I know you have been involved in musical pursuits so I offer you a poet's thoughts: "This world is not conclusion--a sequel lies beyond. Invisible as music--but positive as sound." And to end this passage another quote: One day "may your tears be turned into dancing". Mrs. Staub - Posted by: Mrs. Marianne Staub (Michael's former teacher) on: Nov 04, 2015

I met Nellie at Jostens Canada and we work together for a long time before the plant close down but we remained in touch. She does my hair and our friendship is much more beyond that. She is always bubbly and full of laughter maybe the reason why she kept her illness a secret. She will be missed by her customers and friends for sure. Michael is her life and would do everything for him. - Posted by: Fely Salomon (Co Worker, customer, and a friend) on: Nov 02, 2015
