DEBORAH LOUISE BERFT (nee KRAHN) August 27, 1960 - November 4, 2015 It is with profound sadness, after a two year battle with cancer, that the family announces the passing of Debbie, our precious wife, mother and auntie. Left to cherish Debbie's memory are her husband Hugh of 31 years and son Brett, mother Ellie Krahn and stepfather Brian Finlay; sisters Kim (Don) Chorniak, Terry (Rick) Fast, Lezlie (Greg Michie); brother Blake (Connie); many nieces and nephews; her in-laws Norman and Violet Beft; sister-in-law Donna (Walter) De Groot. She is predeceased by her father John Krahn in 2005. Debbie enjoyed life to the fullest, she loved their place at the lake spending many happy summers, boating, fishing, quading, snowmobiling and knitting. She was a very social, fun loving person with always a smile on her face. Her husband and son were her life, family and friends came in a close second. Whether good or bad, Debbie faced her challenges with a strength that most of us do not know or understand. What an example Debbie has set for all of us. Special thanks to Dr. Clifford Yaffee, Tracey and her team for their tender care on 7A West and St. Boniface Hospital. A celebration of Debbie's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what she would want; smile, open your eyes, love and go on. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

  • Debbie always spoke fondly about her family. She wanted to make sure she was setting a good example for Brett so that he could experience a good life. She missed her dad greatly, and often wrote about her childhood and the wonderful times she had with her parents. Hugh was the apple of her eye, as she described him. Debbie always enjoyed her evenings in the program and she was well-liked by all of the other program participants because of her positive outlook and love of conversation. Rest in Peace Debbie....we have wonderful memories to cherish. Our thoughts are with the family. Sincerely, Luxton Program Participants - Posted by: Luxton Program (friends) on: Nov 09, 2015

  • Ellie, we met briefly at St.Boniface Hospital in the waiting room on 7A West and realized that we remembered each other from your days at the service desk at Safeway on Pembina Highway. I was so sorry to read of your daughters passing, but quickly realized how strong a woman you are and how much you loved her. Hang on to the memories and take care of yourself. Although our paths may never cross again I wanted you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers.... Cheryl - Posted by: Cheryl Jamieson (acquaintance) on: Nov 07, 2015

  • In fondest memory of Debbie " With the passing of the seasons,Life is still not done not through, For there is yet another season, Where each spirit is renewed And it is in this calm fifth season; In this hopeful second spring,A time of cleansing and rebirth, A time of new awakening. Each persons life will come full circle, Even as the seasons do, To start another different life, Much better than the one we knew."
