JOSEPH PETZOLD The family of Joe Petzold is saddened to announce his sudden passing at the age of 80 in Napanee, Ontario on October 30, 2015. Joe was predeceased by three brothers, Eathel (Red), Gerald and William (Bud); as well as his son Kelly. He is survived by his brother Dwayne; sons, Greg (Margaret) and Neil (Colette); grandchildren Halya, Michelle and Ace. Joe was born in isolated Denbigh, Ontario, where the family operated a feed and flour mill. After moving to Winnipeg, he spent nearly 20 years as a recreation officer at Stony Mountain Penitentiary. When the prison theatre group needed two small boys for a production, he volunteered his two sons. They made many visits to the prison and The Teahouse of the August Moon would end up at the 1970 Dominion Drama Festival's national showcase. He was active in Toastmasters and the St. Amant Society among others. In 1981 Joe moved East to finish his career in the Kingston area, most recently residing in Tamworth. The family extends thanks to the staff of Lennox and Addington County General Hospital and Adair Place for their care. Cremation and a private interment in the family plot at Denbigh have taken place. If desired, donations in his memory can be made to St. Amant Centre.
