JAN THALMAN The family of Jan Thalman regretfully announces his peaceful passing on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 65. Jan worked for 30 plus years at Sobeys Cash and Carry and took pride in his candy aisle. He also had a passion for painting homes and enjoyed seeing the results. He loved being around his family and friends at the lake, where he was deemed "The Candy Man". Endless games of horseshoes, happy hour fires, and golf cart rides were the highlights. He will be remembered for being the greatest father and grandfather anyone could ask for. Jan took pride in his children and grandchildren and never missed a horse show, hockey event, dance recital or swimming lesson. Jan was a drummer for the band "The Other Side" for 38 years. His red shoes and tie are a trademark, and his drumming skills were impeccable, especially when he played "Wipeout". He leaves to cherish fond memories: wife Sharon; children, Jill (Blair), Danny (Melissa), Lori; grandchildren, Tyler, Alana, Evan; grand-dog Tika, and his beloved pet Nikki. Siblings: Donna (Doug) and Pat (Ron), Jim and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Luk, Dr. Gingerich, Cheryl, the staff of Riverview 3E namely Kate, Arlene and Kim. Tremendous thanks to Val Severyn for being a support from the beginning to the end. You have been a rock, and are the true definition of a best friend. Thank you Ken Stenson for being there in the good times and in the tough times, Roy and Jacquie Nichol for your endless support, and Brent Severyn for being a great friend. Thanks to the band, whom Jan considered his brothers, for arranging the celebration of life. Interment and reception took place on November 19. Donations can be made to The Humane Society or CancerCare Manitoba. Drum on Ringo! We love you and miss you. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. We got to know Jan at Sobeys over the last 24 years or so. We shopped there for our Business and Jan was always friendly and loved to chat. Our daughters came to work with us when they were little( before school age) and they loved "Jan the Candy Man"! And it was because he smiled and laughed and teased them and you knew he was genuine. Jan always spoke of his dear wife and about his kids as they grew up too. He was so proud of them all. Jan is missed by all of us " regulars" at Sobeys. To the family, Our thoughts are with you, From, Shannon & Tom (and Megan & Amy) - Posted by: Shannon and Tom Todoruk (friends at Sobeys C & C) on: Dec 09, 2015

We are shocked and saddened to hear of Jans passing. I had the pleasure and privilege of playing in a few bands after Jan was in the Pawnbrokers. He was an amazing drummer with a rock solid beat. You knew it was Jan on the Drums. His happy go lucky personality and positive attitude made him a pleasure to be around. You’ll be missed Ringo! Sherry and family, please accept our deepest sympathy at this difficult time. - Posted by: Al and Stephie Phimister (Fellow Musician) on: Dec 08, 2015

My fabulous goaltender that won the city Midget Championship for us. My fabulous drummer for the Pawnbrokers when Jan first started his band career. My fabulous ball hockey partner, although he used illegal sticks!! - could shoot the puck better than anybody. But best of all, my buddy who always had a smile on his face and a good word for everybody! I grew up with Donna (Jan's sister). I remember going to band practices - we knew Jan would be an awesome drummer. We will miss him and his friendly and positive outlook no matter what. We will also miss him at the Spruce Sands Silent Auction and seeing him on his "Candy Man" ATV. - Posted by: Dianne and Jim Swaile () on: Nov 22, 2015

We are so very sorry to hear of Jan's passing. Though we haven't had much contact in recent years, I remember the good old days when I was visiting Wpg. & Jan would play his drums (we were teens back then). He was a good guy & fun to be around. Our thoughts & prayers go out to Shari and the entire family. - Posted by: Sheila & Greg McBean (Cousin) on: Nov 21, 2015
