JESSIE KOWALUK (USWAK) November 20, 1926 - November 18, 2015 Jessie passed away on November 18, 2015, at Riverview Health Centre after a lengthy illness. Jessie was predeceased by her husband James in June, 2007, her parents Anastasia (Nellie) and John, brothers Michael (Ollie), Steve, and Bill, brothers-in-law Fred and Earl, and niece Marlene. Her sisters, Sophie of Winnipeg and Olivia of Calgary, and brother, Thomas (Iris) of Gimli, survive her. She is also survived by her stepson James (Kim and Jayla) and her stepgrandchildren Mark and Alicia and their mother Linda of Calgary, stepdaughter Shelley (Mike) and stepgrandchildren Nicole, Taryn and Ryan of Winnipeg, and her longtime friend Anne Bazan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jessie was born and raised in Springfield Municipality. She attended North Springfield and Birds Hill Schools and obtained her teaching certificate from the Manitoba Department of Education in 1944. She taught in various school divisions in Manitoba from 1944 until 1956, when she moved to Vancouver. She was employed by the BC Department of Education until moving back to Manitoba in 1977. She obtained her Bachelor of Education - Elementary from the University of British Columbia in 1966. Jessie loved to travel. She visited Europe while living in British Columbia. When she returned to Manitoba after marrying James in June of 1977, they travelled often, making trips to Mexico, Australia, Alaska, Banff, Jasper, Edmonton, Calgary, Eastern Canada and her favourite place, Hawaii. In accordance with Jessie's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial luncheon will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Chapel, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. on Friday, November 27, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined.
