ELIZABETH ALBERTA ROBERTSON (BROUGH) April 8, 1935 - November 13, 2015 Elizabeth "Betty" Robertson passed away at Gimli Hospital on November 13, 2015. Elizabeth, 80, was born in Winnipeg in 1935 on her mother's birthday. Elizabeth was predeceased by her wonderful parents, Eric Witney Brough and Elizabeth Ridley Brough (Storey). Elizabeth was married to the late sportswriter John Robertson. Elizabeth leaves behind her daughter Patricia Dawn Robertson (D. Grant Black) and son Timothy John Robertson (Lynda Robertson). She is also survived by her brother, Jack Brough, and his two daughters, Sandra Jacoby (Mike) and Wendy Gobert (Warren). After high school, Elizabeth enrolled in Business College to train as a legal secretary. She perfected Pittman shorthand (which always came in handy for secret Christmas lists) and typed 90 words a minute. In 1955, Elizabeth married John Robertson. Her secretarial job supported John's apprenticeship as a copy boy at the Winnipeg Free Press' sports department. John's ambitious media career took Elizabeth to Regina, Toronto, Montreal, Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, Winnipeg, and Toronto (again). In 1990, the couple retired to friendly Winnipeg Beach where Mrs. Robertson was a tireless volunteer with The Manitoba Marathon, Winnipeg Harvest and Gimli's Evergreen Basic Needs. An avid sports fan, Elizabeth loved the Blue Jays, the Bombers and the PGA. She was a stalwart mother, loyal friend, devoted daughter, compassionate aunt and an excellent listener. Elizabeth was the glue that held the unrestrained Robertson family together. She will be greatly missed. Services to celebrate Elizabeth Robertson's life will be held in the spring of 2016. Please make a contribution to her favourite charity, The Association for Community Living, 204-786-1607.
