Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJON (JOHN) SIGURDSON 1936 - 2015 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our spouse, father, Afi, Uncle at home on Tuesday, November 24, 2015. John was born in Eriksdale, Manitoba on September 2, 1936. There he met Shirley Kingsley, the love of his life and was married on October 25, 1958. Together they moved to Winnipeg where John began a career as a builder. John worked and developed many skills in what he called the School of "Hard Knocks". John enjoyed learning and taking on new challenges, quickly showing promise and soon leading production projects through completion. He spent many years bridge building and then never tired of pointing out all the bridges that they had built, as we drove the highways around Manitoba. Along his journey John learned many skills including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, trucking and took an interest in flying and obtained his pilot's license. He and his soul mate, Shirley enjoyed friends and family, and shared many hobbies including golf, curling, baseball, fishing, travel, and especially dancing. John and Shirley spent many years attending the old time dances, and especially enjoyed fiddle music. John always made time for others, and would look forward to the next "Project", helping family and friends with their various home and cabin renovations. The "highlights" of John's craftsmanship include their house at Sandy Hook, and the beautiful doll houses he made for his granddaughters. John was preceded in death by his parents Jon and Freda (Samson) Sigurdson, his siblings Alfa, Carol and Thor, as well as his sister-in-law Ethel. John is survived by his wife Shirley (Kingsley) Sigurdson, his children Brent (Kim), Dawn (Jason), John (Lisa) and the grandchildren Charlie, Erik, AJ, Katie, and Abby. Also in-laws Glen (Donna), Dave (Doreen) and also many nephews and nieces. We would like to thank all friends, family, and neighbors for their kind wishes and support. In lieu of flowers please feel free to make a donation on John's behalf to a charity of your choosing. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Boulevard in Winnipeg. John, Dad, and Afi, we love you and will miss you dearly. My heartfelt sympathy to Brent, Kim and the rest of the Sigurdson family. I have such positive memories of your dad both from years ago in the neighborhood. I ran into your Dad a few months ago at Co-Op Gas station on St. Anne's. We had a wonderful chat and caught up. He spoke of you and all his kids and grandchildren with such pride!!
