CHRISTINA HELENE HOLTMANN (nee LAPING) March 31, 1938 - November 28, 2015 After a brief illness, Christina (Christel) Holtmann, of Rosser, Manitoba, died peacefully surrounded by family, at the age of 77 years. Christina will be lovingly remembered by her children, Henry (Laura), Rosemarie (Gary Bergen), Cathy, and Tony (Kim); grandchildren Benjamin (Kelly), Eric, Dominick (Haley), Joel, Joseph (Mykenna) Mattias, Krista, Sarah, Thomas, and Johnathan; sister-in-law Beverly Laping and her family: Nicole (Victor) Acedo, Jeff (Leigh Ann) Laping, Michael Laping, Susie (John) Pierce and their families and by the extended Holtmann family. She was predeceased by her husband Theodor (Theo); brother Nicholas; and her parents, Elizabeth and Anthony Laping. Christel was born in Weiss Kirchen, Yugoslavia (now Bela Crkva, Serbia) and lived her childhood in Züttlingen, Germany. She immigrated with her family to Winnipeg in 1953. Christel attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute and trained as a hair dresser. Christel met Theo through the Little Britain Schutzenverein and in 1961, became the wife of a dairy farmer where she learned the ways of supporting all farm activities. A huge part of Christel's life was engaged in the farming operation, raising a family and being "Oma" to her ten grandchildren. Christel was an active member of the Mt. Lildon and former Rosser Women's Institutes as well as being involved in the Rosser Community. A faithful Catholic, Christel was a member of the Catholic Women's League and Development and Peace. The family extends its thanks for the compassionate and professional care Christel received from the nurses and doctors of the Stonewall Hospital and the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the Health Sciences Centre. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, December 2 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles Street, Winnipeg, MB. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 3 at 10:00 a.m., also at St. Charles Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery.
