Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLIVE BEDORA CALLENDER (nee GITTENS) September 17, 1918 - December 29, 2015 Peacefully on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, Olive Callender made her way to heaven with her family by her side at the age of 97. Olive immigrated from Guyana, January, 1971 to live with her daughter. She helped with raising her grandchildren and as they grew up she always encouraged their studies and turned to prayers to guide them. Olive always enjoyed traveling, sightseeing with her family and sewing. Mum was happiest when the whole family would gather together to celebrate birthdays, holidays and special occasions. Above all mum was a faithful servant of Christ and her memory will endure forever with her loved ones. Mum we will never forget your love, guidance, wisdom, humour and dedication to the family. Olive will be greatly missed by her son Edward Callender Esq. MBE, U.K (Merlin), daughter Joann Avet Callender; grandchildren Rev. Ian Hinds (Hannah), Michelle Reid, Jason Hinds (Jennifer ); great-grandchildren Samuel, Matthew, Marshall, Riley, Noah, Nathanael, Hope; her brother Rev. Sydney J.A. Gittens (Guyana); many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Olive is predeceased by her husband, Inspector of Police Eric Callender, her mother Margaret Gittens, her father, Benjamin Gittens, brothers Stanley, Edgar and Albert. The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Kyeremateng (Family Practice), Dr. Duerksen and staff at Meadowood Manor Respite Program, Dr. Hanna and staff at Poseidon P.C.H (3rd floor) for all of their kindness and care. Special thanks to Rev. Deacon Helen Hunter for her supportive Pastoral care. A service to honour Olive's life will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, 11:30 a.m. (viewing at 11:00 a.m.) at Saint Bartholomew Anglican church, 881 Autumnwood Dr., Winnipeg with Parish Priest, Rev. Dr. Lee Titterington officiating. Interment and reception will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. You may choose to make a donation in Olive's memory to a charity of your choice.
