JAMES GREGORY MORRISON
Born: Jan 09, 1960
Date of Passing: Jan 06, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES (JIM) GREGORY MORRISON January 9, 1960 - January 6, 2016 Jim passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks General Hospital on January 6, 2016 surrounded by his immediate family and his "second family" from Equal Opportunities West. Jim was born January 9, 1960 and spent all his life in the St. James area. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Florence Morrison, who he loved dearly and has now gone to be with. Jim is survived by his three brothers, Bob (Linda), Jack, and Glenn (Pauline) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was born with Downs Syndrome but that never deterred him from carrying on with his life to the fullest. From an early age Jim was involved with the Special Olympics and excelled in swimming and ten-pin bowling. He had also played baseball, curling, golf, and floor hockey. Jim enjoyed watching sports and loved going to see the Moose, Goldeyes, Jets and Blue Bombers at their home games. He especially loved having his picture taken with the Bomber's cheerleaders. Jim would never miss watching wrestling on TV and always wanted to go see WWE when they were in Winnipeg. Jim had a great sense of humour and loved playing tricks on people. He had such a hardy laugh when he pranked someone. Jim was always up for a party, he loved to dance and socialize with people. Jim attended Kirkfield Park Workshop, St. James Industries and for the last seven years has been at Equal Opportunities West. Jim loved going to work at EOW, he loved the staff, his workmates and the outings they went on. They were his second family and he was loved by each and every one of them. The family is extremely appreciative to the staff at EOW for the time they spent sitting with Jim at the hospital around the clock. Jim was never alone at the hospital thanks to them. The family also want to thank the Doctors, nurses and staff in both ICU, and Level 3 Unit 4 of Seven Oaks Hospital for their kindness and care given to Jim during this time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Equal Opportunities West at 851 Cavalier Dr., Winnipeg, MB R2Y 1C6 a place Jim loved to be. We were extremely blessed to have Jim in our lives, he taught us so much. Jim will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

I am saddened to hear of Jim's passing and of his Mom's as well which I didn't know about until reading this announcement. I helped my husband coach Special O baseball many years ago and Jim was an integral part of the team with his Mom faithfully attending the practices and games and supporting him by cheering from the sidelines. Jim was a great stabilizer for the team. He was always good-natured and enjoyed a laugh, gave his all when he played, and loved being part of the team. As he was one of the older players we always looked to him to provide some guidance for the younger players. My life was blessed from getting to know him and he's dear mother. The world was certainly a better place for his presence and now the heavens will be rejoicing in his joining. Hit a home run up there Jim. Several years ago I had the honour and privilege to coach Jim on the Special Olympics Softball Team. We played our games in Assiniboine Park and I have fond memories of Jim and Florence. Jim loved to play and was one of my "senior guys" that I could count on to give his best and enjoy every playing moment. Florence was always there with Jim and they both became favourites of mine and my family, as well as the other coaches and supporters. Jim was a special athlete and person, and to me symbolizes the true spirit of what sports are really about. My sincere condolences to Jim's family and all his fellow athletes, friends and supporters. Rest in peace Jim! - Posted by: Cam Malcolmson (Former Special Olympics Softball Coach) on: Jan 09, 2016
