GORDON (GORDIE) HENRY BRUYERE

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON (GORDIE) HENRY BRUYERE On January 21, 2016, surrounded by his family, Gordon Henry Bruyere, went to be with the Lord. He leaves to mourn: his brother Ray (Connie) Starr; his children: Karen (Chris), Richard (Nancy), Norman (Vera), Errol, Charlene (Myles), Norbert and Patricia (Ted); his sister-in-law Teresa; brother-in-laws, Robert and George (Mary), 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, also his aunt Mable Longbottom. Gordon was predeceased by parents, Philomene and Henry Bruyere, (maternal mother Ruby Sinclair); his loving wife Caroline (nee Courchene); his brother Kirby; and sisters, Fredericke and Lorraine; his brothers-in-law, Alan, Henry, Herman and John; his sisters-in-law, Dora Twoheart and Mary Guimond. Gordon was a hard-working man and provided for his family his whole life. He was a former Chief of Sagkeeng from 1961 to 1964 and during that time worked three jobs: Abitibi, trucking and logging to support his family. Gordon also helped make rice paddies in Sagkeeng and Scanterbury. He worked for Abitibi for 17 years and with the Winnipeg School Division #1 for 20 years. Pallbearers will be grandchildren: Durwin, Delanie, Brennan, Ryan, Travis and Steve. Honorary pallbearers will be all his granddaughters and great-granddaughters. Gordon loved his family, loved to visit and had a great sense of humour - he will be missed. The family wishes to thank the staff, at the George M. Guimond Care Center for making our dad comfortable in his final days. Wake services will begin on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Christ Anglican Church, Sagkeeng First Nation, with the funeral service on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Alexander Roman Catholic Church, Sagkeeng First Nation with viewing two hours prior. Officiating will be his son Reverend Richard Bruyere and his daughter-in-law Reverend Nancy Bruyere, and father Augustine. Gordon's interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery, next to his loving wife Caroline.
