Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER WIEBE October 12, 1921 - January 30, 2016 On January 30, 2016, with family by his side, Peter Wiebe passed away at the age of 94 years. Dad was born in Russia and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1926, settling in Gull Lake, SK. After a few difficult years adjusting to life in Canada, the family relocated to Winnipeg. As a young man, Dad joined the R.C.A.F. and served as a pilot during the Second World War. After the war, Dad opened a service station, which he successfully ran until his retirement. In 1943, he married Selma Derksen and they spent 69 years together. They raised their family in Wildewood Park, where they made many happy memories and wonderful friends. They also spent summers enjoying their cottage at Falcon Lake. Dad loved many sports including football, curling, and deep sea fishing, however, his favourite sport was golf. Several of his long time friendships came from his membership at Southwood Golf and Country Club. In his retirement years, Dad enjoyed winters golfing in San Diego and made many lifetime friends there. Dad was predeceased by his wife Selma in 2012, and his infant grandson Timothy. He is survived by his four children: Ron, Pat (Dennis), Janet (Neil) and Peter (Karen), along with 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at both Deer Lodge Centre and Dakota House for the great care that Dad received over the past few years. A celebration of his life will take place Wednesday, February 3, 2016, from 11:30 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. at the Norwood Hotel, 112 Marion St. Please join us for a light lunch and some fond memories of Dad. Donations in memory of Dad can be made to the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3J 0L3.
