LESLIE ALEXANDER MITCHELL 1927 - 2016 On February 13, 2016, Les, beloved husband of Lena, passed away peacefully at Park Manor Personal Care Home. It is with deep sadness that we announce his passing, but with joy we give thanks for his long and happy life. Les was born in Winnipeg, MB on October 4, 1927 and lived there his entire life. He worked at Canadian National Railway and Canadian Freight Association for a combined 40 years, retiring in 1982 at age 55. He enjoyed making and drinking wine, decorating his home on Melrose for both Halloween and Christmas, playing darts, and spending time with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spent many years with Lena, at their winter home in Arizona enjoying golf, taking Lena shopping, and spending time with their friends. His greatest joys were being married to the love of his life, Lena, for 26 years and being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He adored his pets Abel and JR. He was predeceased by his mother and father, first wife Irene, sister Doreen and brother-in-law Frank Boyd, and daughter Elin Boychuk. He is survived by his loving wife Lena, sons Tom (Pat) Rodgers, David (Loralie) Rodgers, and Ron Boychuk, grandchildren Jackie (Jim) Halverson, Jamie (Shannon) Boychuk, Deanna (Andrew) Prior, Evan (Yoko) Rodgers, Leahna (Matt) Fauteux, Casey Rodgers and Ryan Froese. great-grandchildren Sarah, Mackenzie, Emily, Hannah, Reece, Madeline, Sophie, Vienna, Mason, Evelyn, Hannah, one great-great-grandchild Aria, niece Linda (Jim) Hudson and family, nephew David (Cathy) Boyd and family, and many good neighbors and friends. Lena and family wish to thank all the nurses and staff at Park Manor for their compassionate care, love and understanding. A celebration of Les's life will take place on February 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • We became next door neighbours of Les and Lena a year before they sold their house on Melrose. Les was very welcoming to his new neighbours, and he always had time for a friendly chat. We admired his energy, whether it was shovelling his snow moments after the flakes had fallen, tending to his flower gardens or setting up his countless Halloween and Christmas decorations. Julie, Jeff and I are very sorry to hear of his passing - our sincere condolences to Lena and the rest of his family. - Posted by: Matt Becker (Neighbour) on: May 08, 2016

  • I have wonderful memories of Grampa Les. He was so good to me, my husband and our two daughters. I love you Grampa. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Deanna Prior (Granddaughter ) on: Feb 17, 2016
