ROBERT (BOB) NELSON DAWSON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bob on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the age of 77 years. Bob was predeceased by his wife Helen (nee Dzwinchuk), his parents Ida and Harold Dawson and his sister Patricia Gray. He is survived by his daughter Sheri and son-in-law Kevin LeFevre, grandchildren Ryley, Kennedy, Rixon and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was born on May 23, 1938 in Prairie Grove, Manitoba. He attended school in Prairie Grove and worked on the family farm and at the general store. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1951. Bob then worked at a number of jobs and began his 36 year career at Manitoba Telephone System in 1957. He held a variety of positions at MTS including ice road truck driver, linesman, buyer and eventually the position of Manager Purchasing and Inventory Control which he retired from in June, 1993. Bob then started his own lawn care business and had a number of clients. He also volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society by driving cancer patients to their medical appointments. In his early years the family built a cottage at Washow Bay on Lake Winnipeg. Bob had a great love of nature and every chance he got he could be found fishing and trudging through the woods hunting game with his Dad and numerous cousins and friends. Bob and Helen met in 1962 and were married on September 28, 1963. They welcomed daughter Sheri on September 6, 1972. They shared a wonderful life together full of family gatherings, laughter and travel throughout Canada and the US. He cared for Helen during her illness with such love and devotion. Helen was the love of his life and we lost a piece of him the day that she passed away. Bob was an extremely generous person. He was always willing to help a friend by lending money, doing errands or being a chauffeur. He loved spending time with his grandchildren including his granddog Dawson they were the loves of his life. He enjoyed taking Ryley and Kennedy for lunch to McDonald's and shopping. When Rixon arrived he was so excited to have a grandson to buy trucks and tractors for. He was such a huge help with the kids whether it would be coming over in the middle of the night to look after Dawson or the other kids when Sheri went into labor or picking-up the kids from school or daycare when they were sick. He could always be relied upon. Bob had a love for purchasing vehicles. Over the past ten plus years he purchased at least one new vehicle per year. He knew every intricate detail about each one and loved talking about them. Each vehicle was the best until he grew bored of it within six months and then it was time for a new one! He loved shopping and meeting friends for coffee and could be found at many stores and coffee shops in St. Vital/Southdale. He loved to visit with people and reminisce about the past. His stories were entertaining and details would change slightly with subsequent tellings! A funeral service will be held Friday, February 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Interment will take place at a later date at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Dad, your time with us was too short. You will be forever loved and missed. Our consolation is that you are no longer suffering and have been reunited with Mom. Rest in peace. Special thanks to the staff of River Park Gardens Personal Care Home for the care and comfort that they provided to Bob during his time in residence. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or The Winnipeg Humane Society. • Sheri, living next door to you and your parents for 15 years was pure joy! Between your cat Sam, my dog Buddy; there became an instant bond. Your parents were always so kind and generous. I will never forget the kindness your dad showed the many times Buddy ran away and especially when she got her foot caught in our fence, he would always be there to come to the rescue. He was best known for his immaculate lawn and backyard. My sons and I still share stories of those days. He will be missed, but I know he is reunited with his true love and is in a happier place. Lots of love, my condolences. Sonya. - Posted by: Sonya Bertoncello-May (friend, once next door neighbour) on: Feb 18, 2016
