GORDON MACONNELL February 20, 1958 - February 27, 2016 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gord Maconnell. He is survived by his beloved wife Kathy, children Jeff (Tetjana) Friesen, Andrew (Tess) Friesen, Jenn (Bill) Butler, as well as honorary daughters Nikki Hagidiakow and Rebecca Shyka. Gord is also survived by the five most favourite people in his life, his grandchildren Luke and Frank Butler, June Friesen, and Audrey and Thea Friesen. He is survived by his sister Joan (Rick) McGregor and Joan's daughters Leanne and Kristen, as well as many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews that will miss his kind and generous spirit. Gord loved all sports growing up, football and hockey being his favorites. He worked in the automotive service industry for most of his life, and many of his co-workers and customers remained his friends until his passing. When Gord's career was cut short by cancer, he never spent a moment feeling sorry for himself or angry that his life was going to be forever altered and cut short. Rather, he made it his mission to seek out others that were ill and offer guidance, hope, or whatever he could to make their life better. He was always available to help anyone who needed encouragement. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Gord McNaught Sr. and Jr., who did everything they could to make Gord's life easier. We would like to thank Blake Karschuck, who made sure Gord could travel wherever he wanted and go to any games he wanted with the luxury of seats that would accommodate the growing discomfort in his bones. Gord enjoyed life and always gave back whenever he had an opportunity. He will be forever missed by all who knew him. A celebration of Gord's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

My father, myself, and many of our family members had the pleasure of working together with Gord for many years. After my father passed away, Gord made a special trip out to the dealership to visit and share some memories with me, and I was truly happy we had that visit. • Warm thoughts for you and your family, Kathy, Joan. I've known Gord since we were kids growing up. I can't help but think of the famous family road trip to California when the Maconnells included me, like family... We tried to get Gord in trouble, he tried to get us in trouble, AND he got to sleep inside the camper while us girls were banished to sleep in the tent! It was easy to ruffle Gord's feathers when we were kids, as he really wasn't all that much younger than us! It was all in kindred spirit and fun back then. Oh, how "we had joy, we had love, we had seasons in the sun..... " I know that the past few years have been nowhere close to fun, but Gord kicked cancer in the face hard, more than once over the past few years and he was stronger than he ever thought he could be. He helped and inspired other people, he made goodness and love of his days. Goodbye my friend... Godspeed. I wish I could be there to celebrate your life and the joy you brought to other people, but I will be there in love and spirit. Love to you all, Terry & Jim - Posted by: Terry Moore Penner (Friend) on: Mar 02, 2016

  • I've known Gord for his whole life as our parents were the closest of friends. I remember Gord and his family coming out to our family cottage in the summer over the years. One thing that comes to mind was Gord sitting on the front deck of his Dad's boat at full speed. (The things we did as kids). The passing of Gord came as quite a shock as wasn't aware that he had cancer. Gord and I, as well as Kathy spent most of our working careers in the automotive industry, so we knew each other both professionally and personally. We will miss a lot Gord.
