CECILIA LAI In loving memory of Cecilia Lai who passed away peacefully on February 29, 2016 at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her father Lok Lai in 2002 and her mother Heng Lin Chan in 2015. Cecilia will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Henry Chun Kau Kong, step daughters Anne Kong (Craig Omelan), Betty Kong, Cindy Butler (Lance) and her grandchildren Tien Yau (age six), C.J. (three) and Olivia (four). And by her family in Vancouver who are brother Dominic (Grace), sisters Teresa (Leonard) and Anna (Johnny) and nieces Maria (Cam), Tracy (Quan), and Gina (Richard). Cecilia was born in Hong Kong on July 4, 1950 and immigrated to Vancouver in 1974. Her favorite job was as Food and Beverages Director who oversaw many elaborate banquets at The Radisson hotel in Richmond, BC. She was a friendly and popular person with a strong belief in Christian values and was very active in her church. With a desire to see the Prairies, she visited to Gilbert Plains, Manitoba and stayed to help a local Chinese family with translation and child care. She met Henry after he had retired from his restaurant business in Grandview. They married on January 18, 2004 and they built a house in south Winnipeg. Cecilia was very devoted to her new family and took loving care of Henry's elderly parents. They would visit them daily at the care home until mother in law Sun Oi Kong died in 2007 and father in law Keung Kong died in 2010. Cecilia and Henry helped to care for their grandchild Tien Yau for two years when Anne returned to work and was a playful and joyous grandmother to all three of her grandchildren. She enjoyed family trips to San Francisco and Hawaii and visiting her family in Vancouver. She was a talented cook and enjoyed cooking for her family at weekly dinners. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and bravely recovered but had a relapse and passed away peacefully on February 29. The Funeral Service will be on Sunday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m., Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. with Pastor Chu officiating. Her family wishes to thank all her friends who visited or gave their well wishes and especially Helen Kwan and Lam Ip who gave her special care in her last days. Many thanks to Eliza and nurses Annie and Karen for their kindness. We wish to thank her family doctor Dr. Khelil for her excellent and attentive care all these years and her oncologist Dr. Valerie Gordon. We give thanks to Pastor Chu for his invaluable assistance during her illness and through these difficult times. Cecilia had established camaraderie amongst her friends and fellowship. Her passion for life inspired us. We shall miss her great warmth and sense of humour. She is now in God's hand and hope one day we will all reunite with her. - Posted by: Ken and Kitty Ho (Friends) on: Mar 04, 2016
