  • I first heard about the passing of Charlie Hart from my parents. I was talking to my mom and a memory immediately came to mind. I hadn't thought about it for fifty years. It was the summer of our first year on Arden Ave. We hadn't been there long enough to get to know any of the neighbours yet. My dad was at work and the rest of the kids were off somewhere. It was summer and my mom was doing laundry for four kids and a husband in the basement. I was keeping her company. I don't know exactly how it happened but as we stood in front of the wringer washing machine scalding hot water came shooting out of the copper pipe on the wall and was going everywhere. I had no idea what to do and neither did my mom. I remember a lot of confusion and panic. It seems like everything after that was just a flash. I'm not sure if I went across the street or my mom or he just showed up but the next thing I knew this tall guy with a very shiny head was now in the basement fighting the good fight against the water. In a few minutes he had the water turned off at the meter and everything was under control. It was like he did those kinds of things everyday. As calm as can be Charlie turns around, puts out his hand to this nine year old kid with a dumb look on his face and says" Hi! I'm Charlie" and shook my hand. This is who Charlie was. He probably wouldn't even remember it happened. I certainly do. He was a friend to all and always a friend. There for you, even if he didn't know you. That's just who he is. Thanks Charlie! - Posted by: keith mears (friend, neighbour) on: Mar 04, 2016

  • It is with sadness that I heard of the passing of Mr Hart. It was about 50 years ago that Mr Hart and his family opened their doors and their hearts to me to become part of their wonderful family. Though I wasn't there for a long time, the impression, caring and goodness I felt from them stayed with me through the years. I'd like to take time to thank both Mr and Mrs Hart and the 4 children for their unconditional caring and express my condolences for their loss. As well, I was touched to see that blessings of numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren were given to this wonderful couple. Thank you Mr Hart and may you rest in peace. - Posted by: Patti F (Foster daughter) on: Mar 03, 2016

  • We are so saddened to hear of the passing of Charlie. He was eternally the optimist, with a permanent smile on his face. Our children used to wait for Charlie to pass on his morning walk and run out to greet their "friend". May you rest in peace. Our sincere condolences to Lorraine and the family. - Posted by: Jennifer Jean-Paul, David, Elyse and Josee Savoie (old neighbors) on: Mar 02, 2016
