MARGARET BEGGS December 8, 1928 - January 29, 2016 It is with great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Margaret Beggs on January 29, 2016. Margaret was the youngest daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Beggs of Winnipeg. Margaret was a life-long resident of the North End right up until her passing. She attended Champlain, Luxton and St. John's High School. After graduation, she was employed with Winnipeg School Division, first at Robert H. Smith and then Aberdeen School. Margaret eventually worked her way up to Secretary to the Chief Superintendent, Carmen Moir. She remained with Winnipeg One School Division until her retirement. Margaret came from a musical family and so naturally was a strong supporter of the Winnipeg Symphony and the Manitoba Opera. Her interest in sports led her to being a badminton player for many years at the Wildwood Club. Travel was another passion for Margaret and her sister Joyce. They spent time in retirement going to San Francisco and later Massachusetts and New England. They also were able to travel to Great Britain to see the land of their ancestors. Margaret and her sister were faithful members of the St. John's United Church until they closed down. They then joined St. John's Presbyterian and quickly immersed themselves in the church activities. Margaret served on the Board right up until her passing. The Church congregation was like a second family to them. Margaret was an animal lover and cats in particular. The stray cats in the neighbourhood seemed to know that the best place to go was the Beggs residence as they would be well cared for. Failing health in the last couple of years made life difficult, but Margaret remained cheerful and always had a smile and a story to tell her many friends. She died the way she wanted, still living in the family home and still driving her car right up till the end. Margaret is survived by her sister Joyce Beggs of Winnipeg; cousin Mary Kempster of London, England; her godchildren, Jane Botting, Liz Stewart, Julie Hubbard and David Hubbard and their children and grandchildren. Her two lifelong friends, Francis Hubbard and Stella Futz, of Winnipeg. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 12 at 2:00 p.m., at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 251 Bannerman Ave., Winnipeg, Rev. Barbara Pilozow officiating. Charitable donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Rest in Peace Our memories of you will be with us always

  • For the past 16 years I've known and worked for the Beggs sisters. I would hear weekly stories from Margaret and Joyce's youth as well as their weekly activities. She was affectionately known as 'Miss Margaret' by my children. We will miss her great sense of humor and loving, generous personality. - Posted by: Dan (friend) on: Apr 13, 2016
