ROBERT JAMES (BOB) MCMILLAN On March 9, 2016 at 10:30 a.m., Robert James McMillan, aged 62, surrounded by loving and caring family, passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. Robert was born in Winnipeg on June 28, 1953. He was the adopted son of Phyllis Thornback and Norman McMillan. Bob grew up in Winnipeg and enjoyed a long career as a Welder/Carman at the Canadian National Rail yard in Transcona. Bob is survived by his two sons, Colin and Michael; his mother Phyllis; his sister Beverly; other extended family and many friends. He was a loving father to his sons, wanting only the best for them and taking pride in their accomplishments. Bob was not well, yet he put on a brave face every day. It was not the way any of us would have wanted his life to be because he had so much talent and skill. It was just not to be. Bob was an avid golfer. He was also an accomplished swimmer, water-skier and fan of NFL football. He was a voracious reader and spent many hours with his favourite authors, Stephen King and Robert Ludlum. He was an avid "gamer" and had many hours of enjoyment with his video games. More than anything, Bob loved the time spent with family and friends. Service will be held on Wednesday March 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Avenue at Henderson Hwy.

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • Many memories of Bob in my mind - always a fun, high energy guy, full of laughs - most recently came to my work with a coffee for me, asking if I had time for a visit. I'm glad I did. Be at peace Bob. - Posted by: Shelly (Rempel) Dagg (Friend) on: Mar 14, 2016

  • Bob was someone I met way back in high school in 1972. He knocked around Winnipeg with some of my nearest and dearest. My earliest memory of him was a charming boy "holding court" with a joke or two! He had an infectious way of drawing you into the fun. Man! He never, ever ran out of jokes. Every time there was a gathering of friends he had (at least) half a dozen new jokes to tell. Despite the "tough guy" exterior he was kind, sensitive and warm. He was the "go-to" guy if you were having troubles because he genuinely cared about how life was knocking you about. He listened. He had good advice. And he wasn't adverse to a "boot in the arse" if you needed one! Always in middle of the action; he had a twinkle in his eye and an infectious laugh. Who could resist that sense of fun?! My deepest condolences to his loved ones. - Posted by: Judith de Haan (Friend) on: Mar 14, 2016

  • My deepest sympathy to all Bob's loved ones. Although we had been out of touch for many years, Bob was a very important part of my early life. The Bob I knew was kind, generous, energetic and funny. I loved him deeply for many years, and we remained lifelong friends. my heart truly aches, and goes out to all of you, and to Bob. But I do take some comfort, and I hope you can too, in knowing that he is no longer in pain, and is with the souls of our many dear friends, who also passed far to soon over the years. He was indeed loved. I am deeply sorry for your loss of Bob. Take care all of you, Sincerely, Laurie Richardson - Posted by: Laurie Richardson (friend) on: Mar 13, 2016
