Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLET TITTLER (nee POLLOCK) July 20, 1936 - March 5, 2015 Violet: Wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandmother died peacefully in her 80th year, in Richmond, BC, on March 5, 2016 in the presence of her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born in Cold Lake, Manitoba, Violet lived in Winnipeg for 22 years. As an elegant young woman she demonstrated pre-eminent athletic skills in baseball, basketball, volleyball and track and field on championship winning teams reaching induction into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. As a homemaker and caring 30 year old mother of five children striving to achieve outside of old gender boundaries, Violet joined the track and field community of British Columbia. Within one year and an intensive training schedule, BC cross-country and western Canada half mile championships were accomplished. She then turned to hurdling and pentathlon competitions becoming one of the top three hurdlers in Western Canada. In her later decades she traveled the world with her husband Konrad. A 2000 mile bike journey along the Danube River, through Germany, Austria, the Iron Curtain, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Romania, ending at the Black Sea is one of the many challenges she eagerly accepted. Violet will be remembered as a truly grand matriarch of a large family, and a most generous hostess, sharing her love, caring and home with many family members, progeny, friends, and children of friends for indeterminate durations of days, weeks, months and years. She always had time for each and every one of them. She was a kind, proud, independent woman of substance. Violet is survived by her husband of 58 years, Konrad Tittler; her five children, Konrad Tittler, Michele Tittler, Susan Couldrey, Lorene Beckett, and Mark Tittler; her 10 grandchildren, Casmir MacDonald, Alicia MacDonald, Kateland Tittler, Jasmine Wolfe, Rudi Skladowski, Jackson Wolfe, Sarah Tittler, Konrad Tittler, Max Tittler and Jack Tittler, and her three great-grandchildren, Tegan MacDonald, Aeryn MacDonald and Amelia MacDonald. The family wishes to thank the medical staff in the Palliative Care unit of Richmond General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Violet's name to Covenant House Vancouver. There will be a celebration of Violet's life on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Arbutus Club, 2001 Nanton Avenue, Vancouver, BC.
