PAUL HRYNCHUK With his family by his side, on March 9, 2016 Paul Hrynchuk of Oakbank, passed away at the age of 86 years. Paul will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Gail; their children, Paul (Colleen), Jason (Tracy), Niki (Wayne); and grandchildren Jonah, Hannah, Aislynn, Noah and Isabella. Paul was born in Bield, Manitoba on November 11, 1929. He was the son of Peter and Anne Hrynchuk. His parents, siblings and beloved daughter Holly, predeceased him. Paul spent his entire working career for the Manitoba Telephone Systems. He led by example, by working hard and being committed to his job. He was a well-respected, loyal man that made many friends along the way. Paul began his football career in 1945 as a student in St. John's High School. He played in both junior and intermediate levels, coached and was a referee, as well as a general manager. Paul played and coached for the St. Boniface Legionnaires and he and his teammates were inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in November of 2006. In March of 1954, at the age of 25, Paul signed a standard players contract with the Saskatchewan Rough Riders, and although he did not make the cut, he said that he would not have changed the experience for anything. In 1973 Paul was one of the founding members of the Springfield Polo Club. From that point on, polo became an integral part of his life. He was a player, an umpire and after his playing days were over he maintained the polo grounds at Birds Hill Provincial Park. In 1989 Paul married Gail, and two families became one. Paul's fondest memories were spent with his children and grandchildren. Travel was an important part of Paul and Gail's life, with many winters spent in Sayulita, Mexico. Paul was a loving husband, father, Gido and friend. Paul spent his last few months in Kin Place Personal Care Home, where he received exceptional care. The family would like to extend a special Thank you to Dr. Jeff Wiebe, and the caring staff at Kin Place. A celebration of Paul's life will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at OakBank United Church 582 Balsam Crescent in OakBank. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank, Manitoba. We were very saddened to hear of Paul's passing. He was one of the first people we met when we moved to Springfield and joined the Saturday morning breakfast club at The Ranch. He was one of a kind. Loved his sense of humour and always enjoyed spending time with him. Rest in peace Paul. We know the best polo ponies are where you are. And that you and Ross have already started a new club! - Posted by: Terry and Paula Johns (Friends) on: Mar 25, 2016

Paul always had a big smile for any of us old Elks. I saw him often in Oakbaqnk and he was as happy as any man I have ever seen. Truly a man in his element. There are so many stories of gags and pranks pulled by and to the Polo Club gan g. We will miss you Paul. It's not likely another will come our way May all your ponies be spirited and loving - Posted by: Gerry Dureault (former player with the Norwood Elks Juvenile football Champs) on: Mar 18, 2016

Deepest sympathies Paul and Colleen! Paul Sr. was a character - no doubt - and will be sorely missed! Rest assured his old buddies - my Dad Frank and his cousin Tony Wasylishen - were both there to meet him upon his arrival upstairs and pick up where they left off. Take care. - Posted by: Peggy Wasylishen () on: Mar 18, 2016

Dear Paul Jr., Gail and families, I'm so very sorry he is gone...He once told me and we laughed about his 'bionic' parts...knees, heart, elbows..to this day I'm not sure he wasn't pulling my leg. We had one lovely ride together - a secret ride - as he wasn't supposed to be riding anymore. When my horses were at Paul and Colleen's, he would sneak them an extra ration on cold winter days! We had our secrets, didn't we? Such a sweet man. I'm so happy I knew him. He's in the big paddock in the sky, with a big bucket of grain and he's smiling as the ponies walk with along with him. To Gail and families. Our sincerest condolences and sympathy with your loss, however his suffering has passed. Although we only knew him a short while, it was an enjoyable one and he always had that twinkle in his eyes. - Posted by: Bob and Iene (Friends and Neighbours) on: Mar 15, 2016
