Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRODERICK REMPEL February 21, 2000 March 14, 2016 It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our dear son and brother, Roderick LaRay Rempel. He is lovingly remembered and cherished by his parents, Jake and Lisa; brother, Tyler; sister, Angeline; grandparents, treasured family and friends. Roderick's arrival into our family was welcomed with great joy and gratitude. It was a gift we had been anticipating and for which we had prayed for several years. Roderick filled our world with laughter and love and each day was truly a gift from God. Roderick accepted Jesus Christ into his life at an early age and has stayed true to that commitment to serve Him. He never doubted his faith in Jesus. Roderick had a high level of energy and kept us on our feet from the day he started running. At age five while public skating a coach approached us and asked if we'd allow Roderick to play hockey. He was so excited and scored a goal his very first game. Since then he has played with passion and pride always giving his best. He played AAA city midget hockey for the Winnipeg Sharks. Aside from hockey, Roderick loved dirt biking, snowboarding, hunting and target shooting, he was a natural athlete and loved all kinds of sports. Roderick attended Mennonite Brethren Collegiate. Roderick had a way with children and loved to babysit his cousins. Although we still own the farm, we moved closer to the city when Roderick was 10. He has a passion and pride for the farm, and hoped to take it over one day. Roderick loved to talk business and make plans for his future in farming, and was looking forward to the trip we had planned to a poultry convention this past week. Roderick was always happy and had a smile on his face. He was full of energy and loved life. He picked himself up when he fell, and persevered through difficult times, and this is what he would want all of us to do now. Roderick will be deeply missed. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Springs Church, 595 Lagimodiere Blvd. on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00 am. A private family interment will follow. I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Roderick's passing, only knew him briefly but as a hockey player and a person he always showed his coaches respect and was a pleasure to coach. Condolences to the Rempel family. - Posted by: Tyler Bonni (Hockey coach) on: Mar 18, 2016

I played my first couple years of hockey with Roderick and as his defence partner. He was one of the fastest skaters on our team and his love for the game was undeniable. I have memories of him teaching me how to multiply in middle school and helping me score the game winning goal for our first banner. My thoughts and prayers are with his family now, Roderick will be missed dearly. - Posted by: Brooklyn Toderan (Old friend) on: Mar 18, 2016

I used to play hockey with Rod. I remember when he moved up to play with our team halfway through the year, we immediately became friends and our team gained a strong defenseman. He could always make us laugh and had a way of keeping spirits high. I continued to play with Roderick for 2 more seasons, and we spent hours in the car together driving to and from hockey. We got to know each other and became even closer friends. Roderick was one of, if not the, toughest people I know. He'd never complain if he got hurt or anything. He'd just carry on and do his job. Rod always made sure it was his job to protect his fellow teammates. He genuinely cared about his team, and would put himself in the way to protect us on the ice. You always felt safe with him on your team. Roderick was an amazing person, and great friend. When I heard the news, I was crushed. The World lost an amazing person. Jake, Lisa, Tyler, Angie, I am so sorry for your loss. I can't even begin to imagine what you're going through. Roderick will be deeply missed by the many people he touched throughout his life. - Posted by: Scott English (Friend/Teammate) on: Mar 18, 2016

Me and Roderick where best friends back when he lived out by Riverton, he was like a brother. I will remember all the crazy adventures we had together, from fishing in the ditch to slide off the chicken barns in the winter. I know I will see him again one day, but until then I will treasure his memory. - Posted by: Thomas Kehler (Old friend ) on: Mar 18, 2016

Our hearts are aching for you. We are so sorry for your loss. Our son Braeden was friends with Roderick at MBCI. In grade 8, Roderick accidentally knocked Braeden over in gym & he broke his wrist. Braeden was not upset with Roderick. I remember him saying that Roderick was stronger than he knew he was & he had a kind heart. I remember him as a smiley joking type kid. We have been praying for you since we heard the news. We are comforted knowing Roderick is in heaven with Jesus & one day we will see him again. May you find comfort in God and in your beautiful memories of Roderick. Sending our love and light. - Posted by: Melanie & Michael Engel (Our son Braeden was friends with Roderick ) on: Mar 17, 2016

I don't know your son, nor do I know you, the family. However, I have been praying for your family and for Roderick's classmates and friends. I only know what Rebecca told me: "everyone liked him". Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through. Dearest Jake, Lisa, Tyler and Angeline, We came to know your family quite unexpectedly when we hosted a young man from Russia who came here to play hockey. How blessed we were to be approached by you first at the arena! We knew right away there was something special about your family, and that we had a common ground. Our faith in Christ was our common ground and we quickly realized that you and your children lived your faith unashamedly! We came to know Roderick both through hockey and MBCI. We will miss him greatly! The Friday before his passing, I had an opportunity to talk to Roderick (actually, I think I embarrassed him a little) and mentioned that he had grown up into quite a good looking young man. He blushed slightly and smirked at me, which made him even more handsome. This is how I will remember him always, young...strong...and growing into a wonderful young man. Our heart aches for you all as you walk through this dark time, but the thought of Roderick with Jesus encourages us to continue to walk steadfastly in our faith. How blessed we are to have known him...if even for the shortest of times. We will continue to pray for your family always! Affectionately in Christ Wayne and Maxine - Posted by: Wayne and Maxine Gacek (Hockey Friends) on: Mar 17, 2016
