HAROLD FRANCIS JOSEPH MURRAY Early in the afternoon on April 4, 2016 Harold Francis Joseph Murray passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital. Born in Montreal on December 20, 1924, he served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, remaining in the R.A.F. Reserves after the war. He married the love of his life, Viola, on October 1, 1949 in a ceremony presided over by Vi's brother Leo, a Redemptorist priest. Harold's strong faith guided and supported him throughout his entire life. Following the war he joined CN Rail, starting a career in railway which would extend almost 50 years. In 1978 he moved his family to Winnipeg to serve as Vice President of Via Rail west. Harold's expertise and passion for the railway remained in his life until the end, as he served as a consultant for PTSI Travel Services well into his 80s. Beyond Harold's professional accomplishments, he placed a high value on family and friends and always showed keen interest, support and love to those close to him. He retired in 1986 and subsequently spent his winters in Sarasota, Florida, and his summers at the cottage at Falcon Lake. He will be forever remembered for his vivid storytelling, his love of music and enthusiastic participation at parties. He is survived by his five children: Jane (Ron), Cathy of Houston, Texas, Jim (Doreen), Marilyn (John) of Dryden, Ontario and Jeff (Alainna) of Port Moody, British Columbia and his eight grandchildren. He now joins his beloved wife Vi, and his parents Rita and Harold in Heaven. The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Kevin Coates for his years of service, and to the staff at Dakota House who always made him feel so special. Viewing will be held between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon, Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. There will be a memorial service at the Dakota House, 1145 Dakota St., on Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at St. Timothy's Parish, 135 John Forsyth Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Big Brothers and Sisters of Winnipeg charity. Harold will be forever missed.
