DOREEN MILAN (nee EIRICKSON) With her loving daughter by her side, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend died peacefully on April 7, 2016 at the Women's Hospital. Doreen was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Vida Eirickson; her sister and brother-in-law Edith and Doug Oliver; and her brother Frank Eirickson. Doreen leaves to cherish her memory her daughter and son-in-law Candyce and Joe Szkwarek; her grandchildren, Jackie (Mark) Motoch, Joe Szkwarek, Katie Szkwarek; great-grandsons, Max, Luke, and Patrick; her sister Alice (Joe) Erickson; sister-in-law Marilyn Eirickson along with numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends. Doreen was born on July 8, 1927 in Lundar, MB. The eldest of four, she left school at an early age to work on the family farm. She grew up in the hayfields, riding horses and milking cows. When she was 19 years old she took her strong work ethic and moved to Winnipeg where she earned her hairdressing license and began a career that lasted over 60 years. Doreen loved life. Her positive attitude and energetic spirit were contagious and touched every person that crossed her path. She was a business owner before working at Health Sciences Centre until her retirement in 1991. Her most fulfilling title was Grandy. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and spent many summers with them in Winnipeg Beach. She enjoyed endless card games and playing the guitar. Doreen was an active member of the Legion and could be found most weekends on the dance floor until the music stopped. Special thanks to Dr. Altman, Dr. Dean, the Nurses and Health Care Aides of the 5th floor of the Women's Hospital for the excellent care provided to Grandy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. REST IN PEACE GRANDY, WE LOVE YOU A Celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. from Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd., Winnipeg, MB. A reception for family and friends will follow. For online condolences or to light a memorial candle please log onto www.mosaicfunerals.ca 1839 Inkster Blvd. 1006 Nairn Ave. 204-275-5555
