Date of Passing: Apr 08, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD RADDATZ (RICK) It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Richard (Rick) Raddatz on Friday, April 8, 2016 at St. Boniface Hospital from congestive heart failure. Rick is survived by Sharon, his beloved wife of 47 years; his son, Stacey and special daughter-in-law, April; as well as the loves of his life, granddaughters, Lauren and Caitlin. Rick was predeceased by his mother Florence (Mickey); father William (Bill); sister Irene; and niece Carolyn. Leaving to mourn Rick's memory are his brother Martin (Rhonda) and sister Glenna (Larry), numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Rick grew up in Regina, and loved sports especially hockey, baseball and football, often cheering loudly for his Saskatchewan Roughriders. He loved the outdoors and took pride in having the "greenest lawn on the Bay". When the granddaughters came along, he assumed after school daycare, dinner and chauffeuring duties. This allowed him the opportunity to get in lots of "Lauren and Caitlin time". Rick earned his BSc Honours, Physics, Masters of Science, Meteorology, and B. Ed., Physics. He worked for Environment Canada for 35 years. Upon retirement, Rick was a sessional instructor at the University of Winnipeg, and Adjunct Professor and Research Associate at the University of Manitoba. Rick's colleagues considered him an exceptional research scientist, and he left in excess of 50 published scientific papers. A memorial gathering will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Glen Lawn Reception Centre, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba. A private family interment has already taken place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Hodgkin Lymphoma Society may be made in memory of Rick. "Those of you who wish are welcome to wear Rider Green". One of my best friends at Thom Collegiate. Our crew of Rick, Bruce Ellis, Wayne Rolfe, Larry Hall, Brian Beck and myself had a blast in class and on Thom's teams. Rest in Peace Good Friend! Still have a bump on my right shin where Rick swung his putter in exasperation after missing a short putt. - Posted by: Larry D Adams (high school friend) on: Apr 13, 2022
