Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALECSA (Alex) BALAN October 16, 1935 - May 7, 2016 Peacefully, on May 7, 2016, at age 80, Alex Balan passed away. Alex was born in Saskatchewan. He resided with his family in Woodlands MB and later moved to Winnipeg, where he owned and operated Balan Electric for decades. Alex was a very proud generous man who helped many and rarely asked for anything even during his time of need. He took great pride in his work and always expected others to work hard. His colorful personality and use of the English language always left an impression and influenced many; some of which today continue to light up Winnipeg and many other cities. Jackie, April and the family would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa for their care, support and patience during his final days. Work hard, play hard was our dad's motto. He will be missed and remembered by many. We love you Dad. Failure to Fall Life is like walking on a tightrope You never know when you might fall Wind is your enemy Patience is your new best friend Running could mean death But time and effort are rewarding For there is only a small path supporting you Balance is the key Wind - is that predictable? By Emma (granddaughter) Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will not be held.

Alex Balan... I was his inside sales contact at Nedco Electric for years. Then I was promoted to outside sales. Mr Alex Balan took me under his wing... and for years purchased electrical supplies from me. Every Monday morning i would meet him at the shop... 7:30am, Donuts coffee check stock sit down chat. He would take the news paper and say Sexton answer the phones. Alex was not only a business partner, but a great friend. We had many great days together. April & Jackie I hold you both close to my heart... Murray Sexton - Posted by: Murray Sexton (Friend) on: Jan 04, 2021

Lived down the block on Rosedale, when I was a child and Al had given me refuge from a troubled home. I am grateful for his compassion. - Posted by: todd Harder (Friend) on: Feb 18, 2020

I worked for Alex at Balan Electric and he was the boss from hell sometimes but my friend. I always fondly remember him. I was always hoping to run into him these past years but that did not happen. Condolences to his family. Alex had a tough exterior but a big heart underneath. RIP Alex - Posted by: Darlene Monette (friend) on: Jun 01, 2016

Mr. Balan's (Alec's) early confidence in me as a junior golfer-including sponsoring me into Pine Ridge Golf Club as a 13 year old-was pivotal in my development as a golfer-and ultimately as a person...So happy I saw him on a return visit from Miami to Winnipeg where he gave me his Canadian Open Pro-Am bag : ). which I still have : ) You helped many.....Rest in Peace Lefty! - Posted by: Marc Chamberland (Fellow Golfer) on: May 23, 2016

Dad, you will always be my HERO. We didn't always see eye to eye but I learned a great deal from you. Your motto: 'Word hard, Play hard,' was definitely your way of thinking and I will live this way till the rest of my life. I miss you dad and you will always be near me. You are truly the best dad ever and I will not go throughout a day not thinking of you. You are in my heart.....I LOVE YOU xoxoxoxo April - Posted by: April Willson (daughter) on: May 16, 2016

He was sick for the last few years of his life, and I enjoyed graciously going to see him at the hospital and at the home. We did not have the closest relationship, but I think that it was enough for him to know that he meant something to me. He has helped me to realize and recognize that there are two kinds of pain. "One that hurts you, and the other that changes you". I don't know if I'm speaking for just myself, or for others as well, but I think that Alex's journey has been a real eye opener. That life moves pretty quick, and as Ferris Buellar says: "If we don't stop and look around once in a while we could miss it!" Yes. I would have liked Alex Balan to have more days than he got but, "Life is not measured by the amount of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." RIP......Hearts and Minds connected forever I love you. :) - Posted by: Emma Murphy (Granddaughter) on: May 14, 2016

If I could write a story about you, it would be the greatest told. You were a kind and loving father (GRUMPY.. at times..) and you had a heart of gold. I will remember all that you taught me, I am sad that you are gone. You will be in my thoughts and prayers; and I know you will always be beside me because you are my dad. Rest in peace. I love you.
