So sorry for your loss. Mr Mustapha gave me a love of biology to the point that I would do genetics at home...for fun! He was one of my favorite teachers at John Taylor and he passed along his love of science to many of his students over the years, including me. - Posted by: Susan Sullivan (Former student) on: May 21, 2016

Soft spoken, kind, generous, patient, and eager to share. Throughout my academic years, only a handful of teachers left a lasting, lifetime impression on me. Mr. Mustapha was one of them. I am honoured to have known him and privileged to meet his family. - Posted by: Robert (Bob) McGregor (former student) on: May 19, 2016

I have often thought about Mr. Mustapha and I have reiterated his words on countless occasions to my children and others since graduating over 34 years ago. As graduation neared we knew he would be sending us off with some wise words... he readied the classroom for a Life Lesson Speech and told us simply to remember two things. One, read the paper everyday, you should know what is happening in your world and it allows you to carry on a conversation and be interesting. Two, get a yearly medical checkup. Do this for yourself, for your family. I have heeded his words, and indeed, they have served me well. I cannot imagine the many words he shared with his family and loved ones and that they helped lead them into a wonderful graceful life. We are all blessed to have known him. - Posted by: Sharon Evans (Student 1982) on: May 18, 2016

A truly inspirational man. His gentle ways, wisdom, kindness and keen eagerness to teach were truly an inspiration to me during my teen years. He made learning "fun" and made true the fact that true educators don't just teach, they shape and mould lives. He is a man that will never be forgotten and, therefore, shall live in eternity. Thank you for your gift of education my good sir. - Posted by: Philip Carver (Former Student ) on: May 18, 2016

We were so sorry to hear of Waheed's passing. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family. I taught with Waheed for several years at John Taylor. During that time, his reputation as an outstanding teacher was highly recognized. As I was a music teacher, my students would talk of their classes with Mr. Mustapha in the most positive terms. He and I spent a number of years serving on the awards committee. He was always very dedicated in promoting students who not only did well in his classes but also who served the school well. He will be sorely missed. - Posted by: Ross Shaver (Fellow teacher at John Taylor Collegiate) on: May 18, 2016

Even though high school was 30 years ago, I have many clear memories of Mr. Mustapha from his time as our school's debating coach. He was always a very caring teacher and extremely generous with his time. I remember some of his coaching even today - lessons that have served me well through my whole life. He was also one of the first people of the Muslim faith I had a chance to know in my suburban upbringing in Winnipeg in the 1980s and the kindness and humility he showed certainly made him, unintentionally I'm sure, a wonderful role model for all. Deepest condolences to his family. Dan Kelly - Posted by: Dan Kelly (Former student) on: May 18, 2016
