Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET CHAND March 8, 1927 - May 18, 2016 Having lived a life full of grace and courage, shining brightly in the lives of her loved ones, our Mummy, Daadi, Naani, Badi Daadi, and to many, Bade Aunty, peacefully ascended to a life everlasting, lovingly surrounded by her loved ones. Although missing her deeply, we know her spirit continues to brighten and guide our lives. Born in Ferozepur, India, the eldest child of Dora and Samuel Browne, Margaret was predeceased by Muriel Deane (sister), Michael Browne and Maurice Browne (brothers), and survived by Matilda Khan, Mable Khan and Regina Jones (sisters). Margaret was married to Elvin (deceased) and blessed with four children Priscilla (Vinod Bhatia, deceased), John (Shelly), Mathew (Rita), Albert (Marjorie); 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 17 nieces and nephews. She is respected and deeply loved by numerous cousins, especially Salina Richards. Survived by four sisters-in-law, with a very special relationship with Eileen (Ensor) Mirza. A passionate and enterprising teacher, Mummy founded, pioneered and nurtured a private high school in Amritsar, India. Known as Bade Aunty, she has touched the lives and hearts of thousands of students, many of whom have settled around the globe. She was also passionate about music, enjoyed singing ghazals and religious hymns. Singing has always been a special feature at all celebrations and festivals of the Chands. Mummy immigrated to Canada in 1984, where two of her sons lived. She divided her time among Winnipeg, Halifax and Amritsar (India). She continued to live a very active and independent life, maintaining the many relationships in a large and growing extended family. Mummy was hospitalized several times over the last few years but recovered miraculously each time by God's grace, always fighting valiantly against enormous health challenges. She deservedly received much love and care from a vast army of loved ones. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, in lieu of flowers. Funeral service will be officiated by Reverend Jeff Cook at Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., preceded by viewing at 9:30 a.m. Burial shall follow at the Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, and reception back at Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church.
