LLOYD GORDON LOVIE 1928 - 2016 Peacefully, with family at his bedside, Lloyd passed away on May 19, 2016 at Grace Hospice, after a courageous battle with Cancer. Lloyd was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Ethel Lovie (nee Stevenson), and brother Grant. Sadly, Lloyd's second brother, Keith, passed away only two days after him. Lloyd is survived by his three sons: Ray (Kathy), Glen (Dawn), and Dennis (Nancy), as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Lloyd grew up on the family farm, east of Holland, Manitoba, and moved to Winnipeg in 1951 after working for a few years in Deloraine and Treherne, Manitoba. Upon completing Business College in 1953, Lloyd started working at C.N.R. (Canadian National Railway). This would be the start of a 34 year career with the company. In 1957, Lloyd married Arlene Matthews, and had three sons: Ray, Glen, and Dennis. When his family was young, Lloyd was involved in helping in more than one church congregation, as well as Beavers, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts. For many years, the family headed out on camping trips far and wide, which would have been impossible without Lloyd's ingenuity and dedication. After retiring from the C.N.R. in 1987, Lloyd volunteered his time for a number of years with Child and Family Services. In 2008, Lloyd's loving wife Arlene passed away. In the following year, Lloyd moved from the family home to Concordia Village, where he was known fondly among the other residents. Lloyd enjoyed reading, following current affairs and events, and was a long and loyal fan of the Winnipeg Jets. In whatever neighbourhood he lived, he became known for cycling, a passion he enjoyed well into his later years. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care Ward and Grace Hospice. Your care and compassion were of great comfort to the family. A celebration of Lloyd's life will be held on June 10, 11:00 a.m. at Concordia Village, 1115 Molson St. in the multi-purpose room. Donations in Lloyd's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, or a charity of one's choice.
