LINDSAY KOJIMA Lindsay Kojima died unexpectedly, at home, on May 27, 2016, at the age of 60. He was predeceased by his mother Thelma, and is lovingly remembered by his father Mickey, brother Les and sister Sharon, former spouse Nancy, children Megan and Joel, and granddaughter Ayina. Lindsay had returned to Winnipeg in 2015 after 30 years living and working in Atlanta. Lindsay grew up in Elmwood, and after graduating from the University of Manitoba began a successful 35-year career as a software sales consultant with IBM before moving on to positions with SAP Business Objects, Oracle, and Concur. Lindsay was also a part-time model and actor. As a former lifeguard, he shared a lifelong love of athletics with his children by training alongside them for a black belt in karate, teaching them how to ski, and coaching his son's soccer and basketball teams. A memorial service for Lindsay will be held at the Manitoba Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Friends and relatives will be received from 1:00 p.m. and a private family graveside service will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Japanese Cultural Association of Manitoba or to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I was 6 or 7 or so when Lindsay and Nancy and Megan moved in across the Street. I got two funny stories for you guys. Lindsay had this 80's Datsun and it talked when you turned the key on. Lindsay was doing yard work and me and Megan were in the car, I was turning the car from off to on to make it talk. Well I hit the starter by accident and that lil car took off with me and Megan inside it. Lindsay ran in his flip flops and dove in the car and lost his flip flops and shut it off before anything bad happened. I never played with car keys in an ignition again. 2nd story: My cat Tiger climbed way up one of our trees and had been there a day or two. Called the FD and they said they don't do that anymore. Well we had a big ladder and Lindsay volunteered to go rescue the cat in flip flops. Musta been 30-40 ft up there. My mom gave him a heavy flannel jacket to wear to get the cat down. He misunderstood the purpose of the jacket because when he got up there he put the cat on the inside of the jacket to keep it safe on the way down. That was a mistake. He didn't know the jacket was to keep the cat from tearing him up. That poor man got tore up by that cat on the way down. But he saved my cat! The third (not really funny) story was when he and my dad built the play house and seesaws and such in their back yard. I loved that. Lindsay always let me come hang out with him while he was working in the yard or doing computer stuff. He was my buddy. The world is a lesser place without him in it. I'm glad I got to know you Lindsay Kojima. Kenny Kirkland. - Posted by: Kenny Kirkland (Neighbor from Dekalb lane) on: Jul 13, 2024

  • Lindsay and I were very close for our final two years at Charleswood Junior High. We played many sports together, hung out together and went on some fine ski trips. We started attending U of M at the same time however I left school, began working and eventually moved to Thunder Bay. Our lives drifted apart but my memories of Lindsay were fond and heart warming. I was telling my wife about an experience I had with Lindsay and she decided to check out Facebook to find him. She found this obituary instead. I am beyond sad at reading this; for the world losing a bright soul like Lindsay, for the loss his family felt and for not being able to reconnect with a special friend. I was not surprised to read of Lindsay's lifelong love of sports, his success at business, and the way others recognized what a special person Lindsay was. I know this entry is long after his passing and perhaps no one will ever read it, but I had to write it. I raise a toast to my good friend Lindsay. May memories of Lindsay Kojima bring a smile to all of us more often than they bring a tear. Jeff Delaney - Posted by: Jeffrey Delaney (High School Friend) on: Apr 04, 2020

  • I worked with Lindsay at American Software for many years and we were the best of friends. We shared an office together, and every morning when I walked in, Lindsay greeted me with that great smile.
