FRANCES DOREEN STEVENS (nee HARDY) We are saddened to announce that on June 12, 2016, Fran passed suddenly and peacefully in her home....likely watching Murder She Wrote. Frances, known as Fran or Auntie Francie to many, was predeceased by her husband, Tim, who passed September 10, 2014. Fran is survived by her children, Nathan Stevens, Amanda (Barrett) Racine, and Melinda (Brandon) Moch, and - her pride and joy - her grandchildren, Aidan, Lily, Sadie, Riel, Grady, Rayne and Mason. Fran grew up in St. Vital and has fond memories and many stories of Portland Avenue. Her youth was spent dancing with the McConnell School of Dance and visiting her many aunts, uncles and cousins all over Manitoba and is remembered as a very loving niece and cousin. She spent many years as a single mother raising Nathan, working for Eaton's and developed and maintained friendships from her time there that lasted until her passing. Fran retired' upon marrying Tim in 1979, they adopted their daughters and Fran started a home daycare. Those who were blessed enough to be in her daycare will fondly remember the never ending Twizzlers and looked to her as a surrogate aunt - she loved them like her own. Fran was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and was very dedicated to her faith. She looked forward to the time when Jehovah will return us to the flesh of our youth. Fran had a brilliant smile and a beautiful way with words - her presence, comments and memorable singing will be notably missed in the Congregation. Special thanks go out to the members of the South Transcona Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses for their loving care and never ending assistance over the years. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Transcona Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 930 Pandora Avenue West at 1:30 p.m. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

  • The first time I met Fran was at the Northern Star. Fran was very friendly and helpful.I was very close to her sister Irma, and have remained friends with her sister Pat. I am so sorry for the loss of Fran to the wonderful big family that Fran was a part of. I have watch her family grow, and grow over the years. What a wonder gift for you all to be such a loving and wonderful family. God bless you all. - Posted by: Gillian Lavallee (friend of her and her sisters.) on: Jun 15, 2016

  • Sincere condolences to all of Francie's children and grandchildren. And to Pat and Dan. My childhood memories feature Francie greatly who was much loved by the Eckmire family. She often spent weekends at our home on Linwood Street. My mom (Nellie) and her mom were first cousins and our link was further strengthened by our shared faith in Jehovah and his promise of a wonderful future on a Paradise earth. I will always remember her sense of humour and the infectious laugh that hallmarked all her conversation. I haven't lived anywhere close for 40 Years but am so happy that we had a wonderful visit 4 or 5 years ago when I had a chance to visit Winnipeg. A recent memory to treasure along with all the ones from that childhood such a long time ago. - Posted by: Marnie (Eckmire) Bone (Cousin) on: Jun 15, 2016

  • I first met Fran in 1968 (?) at an orientation for new Eaton's employees when she was beginning her career. During the coffee break she came over and introduced herself and said she was my Dad's cousin. I was delighted to meet her and to find out that I had cousins I'd only heard of from my Mom. I was 17 years old and didn't see much of Fran or her family until moving back to Winnipeg in 1995. Frances was a wonderful person and was always good to talk with. She always seemed calm and peaceful - and her beautiful skin was a testament to her inner peace. Frances will be missed by many, especially her sister Pat and her children. Rest in Peace Fran and my sincere condolences to family and friends. - Posted by: Patty Hardy (cousin) on: Jun 15, 2016
