MERCEDES NICOLAS (nee TANTAY) Peacefully on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at St. Joseph's Personal Care Home, Mercedes Nicolas passed away at the age of 87 years. Mercedes was predeceased by her beloved husband Bartolome Nicolas. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Mercedita Delos Santos, Manuelita (Rolly) Lucido, Magdalena (John) Pineda, Virgilio (Lucy) Nicolas, Maribel (Der) Zarzuela, Marita (Jun) Bagnas, Marcelyn (Choy) Racelis, and Marianne Nicolas (Trevor Morrill), 19 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. She was very religious and was blessed with being creative. She has a special talent of painting and drawing. She enjoyed reading and playing Majong. Whenever Mercedes focused on a passion she would give it her all. Fond memories her family cherish of her beautiful gardens, the birds and fish that they raised and meals she provided. Family was her everything. Lamay (viewing) will be held between 7:00 p.m. and 12:00 midnight, Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 2, 2016 at St. Patrick's Church, 172 Worth Street.
