JOHN SEAL RICHMOND
Born: Jul 24, 1924
Date of Passing: Jul 06, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (JACK) SEAL RICHMOND It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Jack Richmond, on July 6, 2016, just 18 days shy of his 92nd birthday. Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geraldine; daughters, Pat (John) and Kelley; granddaughter Erin; brother Alan and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jack was born on July 24, 1924 to Donald and Cecelia Richmond. Two days following his birth, Cecelia passed away. Not wanting Jack to be without a mother, his father's sister, Alice Fulford, took him into her home and loved and raised him as her son. When Jack was seven, he contracted tuberculosis and was not expected to live but, because of Alice's sheer determination and mother's love, Jack survived and went on to live a long and full life. Jack was raised in the small town of Mather, Manitoba, and attended school there until he moved to Winnipeg to complete high school at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. Jack then went on to become a chartered accountant. His career started as a municipal auditor, which frequently required him to be on the road. During this time, he met and married his wife, known to all as Dean, and started their family. Being on the road a lot kept Jack away from his young family, so he made a career change by accepting a position with the Manitoba Department of Municipal Affairs, eventually becoming the Assistant Deputy Minister. Jack also held positions on the Municipal Board and chaired the Public Schools Finance Board. Jack was well respected by his peers and was either consulted or played a key role in various municipal initiatives. After many years, Jack left the civil service and finished his career in private practice. He was very proud of his professional achievements and was especially overjoyed when he learned that The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario had elected him a Life Member. Jack loved his family first and foremost, and would often express that family meant everything to him. He loved playing games with his daughters and taking his family on summertime road trips. After the girls were grown up, Jack and Dean took several amazing vacations to far off places. He was so grateful to be able to see parts of the world with Dean while they still had their good health. Jack was also passionate about sports and politics, and would love to discuss the Bombers, the Jets or current political affairs over coffee with anyone willing to engage. Jack will be remembered most for his character. He was a kind and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humour. He genuinely cared about people and treated everyone with kindness and respect. Jack may have been small in stature but his heart was larger than life. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of CD2 at Riverview Health Centre, and especially nurse Pia who made sure he was not alone when he took his last breath. You all treated Jack with love and compassion. He was so fond of all of you. A service celebrating Jack's life will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Boulevard at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jack may be made to the charity of your choice. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at glenlawn.ca. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550
