Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDESMOND JAMES KINLEY November 22, 1931 - July 21, 2016 In the early morning of July 21, 2016 Desmond James Kinley, aged 84, passed peacefully from this life. Desmond (Denny, Des) was born in Winnipeg in 1931 to Irish immigrant James Kinley and his Icelandic love Helga (Davidson). He is survived by his loving bride of 60 years Muriel (Richardson); sons, Darrell (Janice) and Randall (Yvonne); along with five grandchildren, Eric (Caroline), Laura (Travis), Devin (Hannah), Brianna and Daegan; sister Valerie Lyon (late John David), their children, Cecil, Deb, Pam and their families; all of Kanata, Ontario; and sisters and brother-in-law, Kay Smith, Margaret Lockyer, Tom Richardson (Marg) and their families. Des grew up in Elmwood, attending grade school there, culminating in a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba. It was during his university days that he had what he regarded as a privilege to be part of a Geological Survey of Canada expedition to Canada's high Arctic. He spent his working career with the Water Survey of Canada, within the Government of Canada in Winnipeg. Dad was a cottage kid, spending his younger years in Gimli and the remainder of his life at West Hawk Lake. Along with that grew a passion for the outdoors where he loved to fish, hunt ducks and enjoy the rural life with family and friends. Dad seemed to be happiest at the lake, enjoying life and making memories, but making memories with Dad also grew out of a suitcase as we managed several fun trips to parts of Canada and the northern States. After we kids had flown the nest, Dad and Mom caught a bit of the travel bug in earnest. They enjoyed seeing parts of Canada, the UK and France as well as some skiing adventures to Sunshine Village. Mom and the family would like to say a special thank you to the home care team that helped care for Dad and allowed them to live as independently as possible until the end, and to George, Mary and staff at the Beachcomber restaurant for their home-like atmosphere. Dad, we know the last years have been frustrating, with age and the effects of the stroke taking their toll, but you are free now. We will miss you, until we meet you on the other side. A Celebration of Dad's life will be held on Saturday, July 30 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, MB. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550
