GLENN WILLIAM BILLEY After a courageous battle with lung cancer, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Glenn Billey, at his home with his family by his side, on August 8, 2016. Glenn leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted and loving wife of 40 years, Jenny, daughter Pamela (David), son Ryan (Courtney), and grandchildren Sawyer, Tate, Deklan, Bennett and Hudson. He also leaves to mourn his mother Mary, brother Gary, sister Donna; mother-in-law Sylvia and brother-in-law Bob. As well as his nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Annabelle, father Walter, and his grandparents. Glenn was born in Winnipeg on February 5, 1954 where he lived his entire life. As a young child Glenn enjoyed playing baseball, hockey, building snow forts and other outdoor activities with his brother and the boys on the block. Glenn liked to take things apart to "see how they worked" and graduated from the Garden City Collegiate Automotive program. In 1974, Glenn met the love of his life, Jenny. They were married on November 27, 1976. In their 40 years together, Glenn and Jenny raised two beautiful children who in turn blessed them with their precious grandchildren. His grandchildren were Glenn's pride and joy. One of Glenn's biggest fans was his loyal companion, his "Pussycat" who was a source of entertainment and who provided comfort to him, remaining by his side. Glenn's passion for auto-mechanics stayed with him and eventually took him to the CN Railway where he worked as a car mechanic for 32 years, retiring in June 2009. Through the years, Glenn formed many friendships that still remain today. He was a faithful Winnipeg Blue Bomber and Winnipeg Jets fan and attended games whenever possible. Glenn loved to play cards and a weekly game with the boys was a permanent appointment in his social calendar. An avid outdoorsman, Glenn was a member of St. Joe's Wildlife Organization following in his father's footsteps; he enjoyed countless hours in a fishing boat, on a snowmobile and on the golf course. Upon retirement, he fulfilled his passion for the great outdoors and took to the road on his favourite toy, his motorcycle, the Goldwing. Glenn's love for travel grew and each year he looked forward to the next visit to a warm, exotic destination; one of the most memorable included a special trip to Cuba with family and friends to celebrate his 60th birthday. Glenn and Jenny spent the better part of their married life on the shores of Lake Winnipeg near Gimli with family and many good, lifelong friends. A celebration of Glenn's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Jenny and the family would like to thank the physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals at CancerCare Manitoba for the excellent care Glenn received over the course of his illness. To the Palliative Care Team, thank you for helping us keep Glenn at home and comfortable during his final days. To all of our friends and family, thank you for sharing this journey with us. Eric, thank you for your constant friendship and support; your visits meant more than words can express. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society in memory of Glenn. Dearest Jenny, My heart is breaking for you. Glenn was the best! As life evolves after school, marriage and family it's natural for teenage friendships to fade but never be forgotten! I remember so clearly bowling at North Gate with Glenn and the wild and crazy group that we were a part of in those days. The "70's "was a time where you actually married your best friend, and the sooner the better! Kids following soon after and then so many years to enjoy life as a family. Jenny, I'm so sorry for your loss of your life long best friend and husband. Pamela and Ryan and the kids will be hard hit by the loss of a such an awesome dad and grand dad. Thankfully they have the wonderful YOU to steer them through the sadness. Jo - Posted by: Joanne Watts (Giesbrecht) (Friend) on: Aug 10, 2016
