MURIEL DOUVILLE (nee BEXTON) Peacefully, with her family by her side, on August 14, 2016 Muriel passed away and was promoted to glory at the age of 95. Muriel is survived by her children: David (Christine), Joanne (Frank) and Laurel (Rick); her grandchildren Dillena and Davey; Christy (Rob), Heather (Damon); Melanie (Andrew); and great-grandchildren Alex, Olivia and Noah. She was predeceased by her loving husband Joe, parents Ivy and William Bexton, and siblings Barbara, Eudora and David. Born in Halifax, NS on July 26, 1921 to Salvation Army ministers, Muriel's first seven years were spent in Peking, China where her parents were Missionaries. Upon returning to Canada in 1928, the family lived in various Maritime communities where her parents were stationed. Muriel met "her Joe" in Halifax when he was on leave from the navy, and they married in 1942. David was born in 1945 at the end of the war. Muriel, Joe and David moved to Winnipeg in 1946. Joanne and Laurel were born over the next eight years. Mom and Dad enjoyed a wonderful retirement, especially their two month stay in Hawaii every winter. Mom continued to travel after Dad passed away in 1995. She travelled to Hawaii every year, as well as to Europe, Australia, China and to Alberta and Ontario to visit family. Muriel was a wonderful, loving mother and Nana. She loved handicrafts, gardening, and baking. Muriel was a life-long member in the Salvation Army Missionary Group and Home League. Sunday mornings at church found her giving hugs, smiles and kind words to everyone. In 2013, failing health forced Muriel to move from her beloved home to Misericordia ICF where she lived for two years. She spent the last one and a half years at River East Personal Care Home. Muriel made many friends amongst the staff, caregivers and residents in both facilities. Funeral service for Muriel will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. on Friday, August 19 at 10:00 a.m.; with Captain James Rands officiating. The family sincerely thanks all Muriel's caregivers over the past three and a half years. Special thanks go to the wonderful staff at Concordia Hospital who made Mom's last days comfortable. We also want to thank all her friends who faithfully visited over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated. Mom, we will never forget the wonderful life you gave us. We will love you forever. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

  • Auntie Muriel, as we always called her, has been in my life since I can remember and I am so happy we have kept in touch all these years -sharing stories and our hobbies -gardening and travelling (especially to Hawaii where she and Uncle Joe spent so much time). She was an important part of her family in her kindness, charity and caring -a true humble Christian woman who had a profound impact on me and my life. My condolences go out to all that loved her.
