ARTHUR SHORT We are very saddened and shocked to announce the sudden passing of Arthur, at the age of 69, on May 18, 2016. He leaves to mourn his sister Roberta; his brother David; their children, Alissa (Trevor), Hadera and Jeremy; great-nephew Braydon; and numerous friends and relatives. Funeral services were held May 20, graveside, at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Arthur had a passion for music and books of all genres his entire life. He collected so much for over half a century and built up an enormous collection. He loved the arts, in general, like live theatre, classical recordings, and the like. He was truly brilliant scholastically as a teenager. He loved to draw houses and buildings with the precision of an architect. However, he chose to be a medical library technician because of his keen understanding to detail and order necessary. He attended Ryerson University in Toronto and Red River Community College here in Winnipeg, where he earned a diploma in Library Technology. He worked at various hospitals in Winnipeg for many years as a library tech. He previously graduated at the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Political Science. As he aged, his health became an issue, especially heart problems. He was preparing to move to the south end of the city to be closer to his family when this tragedy occurred. He truly loved being around his family and could talk endlessly about current news and affairs. He was a very gentle and kind person, who truly loved people. He will be missed dearly. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Gone... but not forgotten. Forever in our hearts.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Arthur and I had our Bar Mitzvah together back in 1959. That was an important time in our lives and I am glad he and I were able to share that experience. I was asking Roberta, his sister, if he was available to meet this summer on my way back from China. It was then, that I learned, of his passing. Shalom. - Posted by: Richard Tessler (Cousin) on: Jun 30, 2017

  • Arthur and I lived together in University College Residence in the very early seventies. It was my good fortune to be given a room next to his. The fact that we were both somewhat older than most of the students there drew us together in a way. We shared many long and interesting conversations during our breaks from studies. He gave me a better perspective on things. I am sorry that he wasn't given more good years. Rest in Peace, Arthur. - Posted by: Jim Ferguson (A neighbour in University College Residence) on: Aug 23, 2016

  • I well remember Arthur from our days on Niagara Street. He truly was a gentle soul. While his siblings were getting into shenanigans with the Niagara/Waterloo "gang," he was the voice of reason. To Roberta and David, I am so sorry for your loss. May his memory be a blessing. Love to you and your families. - Posted by: Enid Barnes (Old family friend and neighbour) on: Aug 20, 2016
