CARMAN DAVID PURDY With deep sadness the family announces the passing of Carman Purdy on August 12, 2016. Carman was born in Winnipeg on August 14, 1927 to Ira and Marion Purdy. A lifelong resident of Winnipeg's North End, Carman attended St. John's Tech High School where he met the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Gerry. Carman was employed at Allied Farm Equipment, Silverline, Kraft and the Manitoba Government Energy and Mines Branch prior to retiring in 1991. Throughout his life Carman had many interests including photography and woodworking. Carman and Gerry enjoyed traveling to Victoria, cruising to the Caribbean and spending time at their cottage at Hillside Beach. Family was important to him. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, his wife Gerry cared for him at home until her passing in 2013. Carman spent his final years at the Maples Personal Care Home. Carman will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by daughters, Brenda (Flemming) Engbaek, Debbie (Steve) Parsons of Victoria, BC, and Janice (Randy) Van Vliet; grandchildren, Pam (Gregg) Engbaek-Parker, David (Lauren) Engbaek, Jeff (Amanda) Parsons, Evan Parsons, and Tyler (Paige) Van Vliet; and great-grandchildren, Erik and Sabrina Parker. Carman was predeceased by his siblings, Susan Kennington and Richard Purdy. His family is especially grateful to the staff of the Maples Personal Care Home who provided compassionate care to Carman. A service will be held 1:00 p.m. on September 6, 2016 at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 130 Nassau St. N. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke's Anglican Church or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
