ELIZABETH (BETTY) CAPPIE November 16, 1929 - August 30, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Cappie on August 30, 2016 at Lions Manor Personal Care Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Betty was the youngest child of William and Rebecca Marcus. She is survived by her daughters, Maureen Heaman (Lyn) and Kathleen Stowe (Doug); son Kenneth; grandson Michael Tutthill (Rob); sister-in-law Haroldine Marcus; nephews, Bill and Jim Marcus and Robert Cappie and niece Susan Cappie. Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband of 43 years, Robert Moffatt Cappie, in 1997, her elder brother William in 2014, and two brothers in childhood, James and Samuel. Betty attended United College and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Manitoba in 1952. She then moved to Virden to take on a teaching position, where she met and married Robert and moved to the family farm. Betty was an active contributor to the farm, especially at harvest time. She had many hobbies, and enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, gardening, knitting, ceramics, and creating beautiful needle point pictures. Betty served for several years as a school board trustee in Virden, as well as on the local hospital board and the representative to Manitoba Health Organizations (MHO). She also supported Robert during his years of leadership positions in the Lions Club, including his time as District Governor. Betty and Robert enjoyed travelling, taking trips to visit friends in B.C. and relatives in Nova Scotia, Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well as spending winters in Texas in later years. They moved to Winnipeg in 1996. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff on the second floor of Lions Personal Care Centre for the care and kindness shown to Betty over the past 10 months. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service will be held on September 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd, Winnipeg. A family service for burial of ashes will take place in Virden Cemetery on September 24, 2016. If so desired, a memorial donation may be made to Lions Personal Care Centre, 320 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2W6, or to the Virden Cemetery Improvement Association, Box 310, Virden, MB R0M 2C0.
