EDWARD JAMES MCSHANE Peacefully, with family by his side, Edward James McShane passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 86. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Helene, his daughter Sharon (Rod), his sons Patrick (Brenda), Brian, and Michael (Raquel), grandchildren Peter Moore, Tracey Moore, Andrea McShane, Jessica McShane, Holly McShane, and step-granddaughter Claudia Fernandes. Ed was born October 23, 1929 in Holmfield, Manitoba. Growing up, he lived in numerous towns around Manitoba, as his father was a station agent with CP Rail. He started his banking career at the Bank of Toronto in Cartwright, Manitoba in 1947, and worked for TD Bank for 42 years. He enjoyed great health and was very proud of missing only one day of work in all those years. He enjoyed curling, bowling, sailing, boating and was a member of the Kiwanis Club. Early holidays were spent taking his family on long road trips with his trailer. After he retired, his favourite summer pastime was being a jack of all trades at the cottage at West Hawk Lake. He and Helene spent their winters in Hawaii or Arizona. He also took up rock polishing, creating many jewelry items for family and friends. Visiting the casino was also another "hobby". Although he was diagnosed in 2011 with esophageal cancer, with surgery and nutrition he enjoyed five years of good health before his stroke. Ed loved socializing, and especially enjoyed debating politics, or recounting stories from his years with the bank. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren as well as their accomplishments. A celebration of Ed's life will be held on Saturday, October 15, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. A private family interment will be held at a later date at St. Vital Cemetery. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff on 5E Medicine for their compassionate care and for their kindness to family members during their week long vigil. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation Palliative Care Fund, 409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6. Family and friends wishing may sign a Book of condolence at www.glenlawn.ca And until we meet again, May God Hold you in the palm of his hand. We Love you Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

  • I had the privilege of knowing this wonderful guy. He had very strong moral values that he believed in. I give him a lot of respect for bringing up his children the right way. I am so sorry that I found out about his passing away just today when I was about to greet him Happy Birthday. I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to the whole family especially to Brian and Helene. I am so sorry for your loss. I know how painful it is to lose someone very important in your life. Just know in your heart that he is a better place where there is no more pain and no more suffering. This is just a transition we go through. Again my sincere condolence to the whole family Helene, Sharon, Patrick, Michael, Brian, nephews, nieces and grandchildren. • I worked with Ed at Clarence and Taylor TD branch in Saskatoon in 1964. Ed was the best and we remained good friends for all this time. He was a talkative prince and could have been my brother. I was fortunate to see him again at Jim and Jeans anniversary party. Sympathies to Helene and family. - Posted by: Don and Sandra Lang (Friends) on: Oct 12, 2016
