BORIS PUHACH October 17, 1923 - October 10, 2016 It is with great sadness and with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Boris Puhach, one week before his 93rd birthday, at the Concordia Hospital. He is survived by his children David (Judy) Puhach and Gail (John) Leah; his grandchildren Marnie (Keith) Walker, Chris (Kim) Puhach, Cori (Roy) McLeod, Jayson (Joyce) Jeppesen, Holly Jacques, Shawna (Mark) Larter and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by the love of his life Olga, his daughter Pat Jeppesen and brother Don Puhach. He is also survived by his sisters Lavinia (Ron) Aftanas, Audrey Stefanyshen and Marjorie Bridgeman. Dad was the eldest child born in Sandy Lake, Manitoba to Andrew and Mary Puhach. He started his early life on a farm in Glenhope, Manitoba where he met and married Olga. A number of years later they decided to leave the farm when Dad took employment with Simkins Construction which later became BACM. His career took him to places like Sri Lanka, Nanaimo, many parts of Northern Manitoba, Saskatchewan, as well as several different locations in Ontario. He was a devoted and loving husband for 70 years and was equally devoted to his children and grandchildren. His best memories were his times with his family and travelling with Olga. They loved going to places like Hawaii, Florida, Jamaica and Barbados. In addition, he really enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing bridge at the Transcona Seniors Centre. Dad was also known for his very innovative and inventive carpentry and had a real knack for fixing things in his special way. A celebration of Boris' life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Many thanks to Dr. D. Caners, the medical staff in N1 North at the Concordia Hospital and his neighbours for watching out for him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I am so sad to hear that Uncle Boris has passed away. In the early 1960s when I just starting school, he seemed like a superhero to me, travelling to Ceylon to build the airport there. I will never forget his Kodak slide show upon his return. The things he saw! The things he did! The people he met! The tales he told! His curiosity and enthusiasm for his adventure impressed me deeply and inspired in me a lifelong curiosity about the world and about travel. I thanked him at a family gathering a few years ago. He seemed surprised and was very modest about his role. I will miss him. - Posted by: Brian Aftanas (Nephew) on: Oct 16, 2016

  • It is with sadness that we learn of Boris' passing. Born of pioneering parents, growing-up during the Great Depression when 2 cents in the pocket was a lot of money -- Boris saw many facets of life in his time. His caring, easy-going manner will be remembered by all who knew him. Our visit and chat with him about 4 years ago will always stay in our memory. - Posted by: Mike & Shirley Puhach (First Cousin) on: Oct 15, 2016

  • Our family will always remember Boris as a very kind and warm person. Olga and Boris were the first neighbors to welcome us to the neighbourhood in 1992. A genuinely nice man. I will miss our chats out on the front lawn when viewing each other's gardens or sometimes a beer or coffee and just chit chatting about the neighborhood and how each other's family were doing. RIP Boris. We will never forget you! Maria VanDasselaar & family - Posted by: Maria VanDasselaar (Neighbor) on: Oct 15, 2016
