MARY SIM (nee ELYSHEN) January 7, 1934 - November 4, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Sim, at the age of 82. Mary will always be remembered and deeply missed by her husband of 62 devoted years, Murray; her children, Shawna (Miles), Karen, Bradley; daughter-in-law Joyce; her grandchildren, Maegan (Chris), Ashley, Leslie and Cody and great-grandchild Chloe. She was predeceased by her parents; five sisters and four brothers. Mary was born in Prawda, MB, where she then spent the next 20 years in foster care, with her dearest sister Alexandra. She was soon to be married in 1955 and Murray and Mary began their journey together, living in Fort Gary. They then ventured to St. James, where they began to raise their three children. With a new business in hand, Mary and Murray then found their way to Oakbank, MB, on a small farm, where she would surround herself with those she loved, exquisite flower gardens and one of her many animals by her side. She found great joy in going up in the airplane with Murray and they spent abundant time out in their cabin in Lee River, with friends and family. A trip to visit Doug and Shirley Sellen's in Florida, USA, turned out to be 23 consecutive years of winter vacationing down south. Playing golf, venturing around on their golf cart and soaking up the sun, Mary and Murray had found a tropical getaway, they lived out fully each year. A kind hearted, devoted grandmother, mother and wife, Nana put her family first and always was there for all of us at any time of need. She had an impeccable way in the kitchen and garden, spoiling us all with endless peanut butter "cooookies" and carrot cake. The last nine years for Mom were spent at the Kin Place Personal Care Home, with a visit from Murray, each day by her side. The care and love given to Mom during her health challenges, made it possible for her to have lots of smiles and dignity, at a time of life when it was most difficult. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude, to all of the nursing staff and health care aids, in addition to Dr. Shenouda for their compassionate care and support. Mom, Mary, Nana, we are so blessed for all the love and memories you leave us. You are finally free and at peace. We will continue to celebrate your life and you will forever in stay in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations can be mailed to the Kin Place Personal Care Home - Box 28 - 680 Pine Drive, Oakbank, MB, R0E 1J0. A private family graveside service will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery. seasonsfunerals.ca

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • To Murray and family So sorry to read about Mary's passing. We have many old time memories at Lee River with your family. Also Mary's hospitality, she always had a snack and drinks ready for the boys after working in the hanger. Sincerely Ray and Lolly - Posted by: Ray and Lolly Shaw (Old time friends) on: Nov 13, 2016

  • So sorry to hear of Aunt Mary's passing. I cherish the memories I have of our limited family visits between Manitoba and Ontario - and the few years when as a young teenager I had the opportunity to hop on a train - travel 36 hours and be picked up at the other end by Aunt Mary and Uncle Murray. I have such wonderful memories of time spent with Karen, Shawna and Brad. Being chased by a goose - horses, airplanes. My mom, Joyce was Mary's sister - and even though the sisters spent much of their growing years apart in foster care, Mom, Jenny, Mary and Alexis were pretty close as adults miles apart; and Uncle Bill. Mary was the last of the siblings. Hugs to all my Manitoba relatives. - Posted by: Kathy Holden (Neice) on: Nov 12, 2016
