JOHN ROBERT KEMP (JACK) It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father Jack Kemp on Friday December 9, 2016 at the age of 91 years with his family by his side. Jack was predeceased by his wife Irene (Ripley), mother Alice and father Herbert Kemp, his sister Vivian and her husband John Maxwell. Dad will be deeply missed by his daughter Lorene Fox (Ken), son Douglas, nieces Lynne Moss (Ron), Karen Turner (John) and many grand nephews and nieces. Jack was born in 1925 in Winnipeg and grew up in the Fort Rouge area. At the age of 16 he started an apprenticeship in the Transcona Shops. When he turned 18 he enlisted in the Air Force and was a radio operator during the war based in Winnipeg, Toronto and then Vancouver. When released from service he returned to CN and at the same time completed high school. He then attended the University of Manitoba graduating in 1954 with his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. He continued working for CN Rail principally in Moncton, Edmonton and Winnipeg where he redesigned portions of Symington Yard, designed and built Car Shops in Thunder Bay and Moncton. He retired in 1982 after 42 years of service, having held many titles including Superintendent of Equipment and Engineering and Planning Officer for the Prairie region. Jack married the love of his life Irene in 1956 and they spent 30 happy years together at home and at their cottage in McIntosh Ontario. They also enjoyed many spring vacations travelling with Viv and John. Jack's sense of humour was always present and he never ceased trying to make people laugh and see the lighter side. His wit and experience were always in evidence. A great problem solver he was ever willing to give advice or lend a hand. A funeral service will take place on Saturday December 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Private interment will be at a later date. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital U4 fourth floor for their kindness and care. Jack gave generously to many good causes. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers a donation in Jacks memory to their favourite charity would be appreciated.
