Memories of Lydia will be cherished by her loving three daughters, Helen (Harold) Slaby in Winnipeg; Irene Miller (Bill Raycraft) in Stratford ON; Eleanor Tamilowicz (Murray Cowan) in Reston; grandchildren, Harold Slaby Jr. (Melissa Jackson) in Winnipeg; Heather (Marcel) Chevrefils in Pine falls; Alison (Max) Marquez in Trinidad and Tobago, and Todd (Janice) Tamilowicz in Winnipeg; great-grandchildren, Nigel, Nolan and Nathan Slaby, Malachi Marquez, and Charley and Ryan Tamilowicz. In 1943 Lydia fled Ukraine with her mother and two daughters and survived the Second World War in German refugee camps. In 1945 Lydia married Peter and the family relocated to Belgium for three years. In 1952 the family immigrated to Canada settling in Winnipeg. Being an excellent seamstress, Lydia was hired by Sterling Cloak where she worked for 20 years. After Peter's death Lydia married Steve in 1992 and spent six months in London, ON and vacationed the other six months in Florida until 1999. She enjoyed travelling and took five wonderful trips to Australia, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba, Hawaii and the Ukraine. The family wish to thank the staff at St. Joseph's Nursing Home for their care and support with a special thanks to Carolyn Mount, the Spiritual Advisor, who was with Mom at the end. On Saturday, December 3, 2016 a private graveside service was held at Glen Eden Cemetery. Our mother was a courageous and great lady; she was loved and will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Mom.
