JOYCE IRENE REID (SOPP) Mom was born on April 10, 1936 to her parents Harry Alexander Sopp of Hayfield, MB and Annie Jane Irene (Swanton) of Gainsborough, SK. Mom was the eldest of eight children. She was born and raised in Brandon, MB and met the love of her life, our father, Alexander McPhaden Reid and married on July 30, 1955. Their first child, Daniel, was born in May, 1957 in Brandon. Seven months later in December of 1957 they relocated to Cumberland, ON where three more children were born. Darlene in June 1959, Donna in September 1960 and Donald in July 1965. Mom and dad were very active members in this community. Mom was an excellent softball player at the position of pitcher. Dad umpired, which could be quite amusing and difficult at times. In the summer of 1976, the family packed up and moved back to Manitoba where they resided in Winnipeg until dad's retirement. Upon retirement mom and dad relocated to Gladstone, MB where they also became actively involved in the community, golfing, curling, etc.Mom remained in Gladstone following our dad's passing in 2004 until January 2014 when she sold her home and moved to Fort McMurray to live with her daughter Donna. Mom remained in Alberta approximately 20 months prior to moving back to Manitoba to be more centrally located for the kids since she was suffering with Dementia. Mom remained with Don and Patricia until placement in a nursing home in December of 2015. Mom was a resident of Charleswood Care Home from December 2015 until her death on January 2, 2017. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • So sorry to hear of Joyce's passing. Our condolences to Dan, Darlene, Donna, Don and families, We have many wonderful memories of Joyce. Not only were she and Alec good friends, but Joyce was a second mom to our son Neil from the age of 10 months to 12 years. Knowing Joyce was looking after Neil made my job so much easier. I know that Neil loved going there and that he benefited from the loving, caring and nurturing he received from the whole family. I really appreciated all she did for us and the friendship that developed throughout the years. May she rest in peace. Sincere Sympathy Sharon & Stan Orr - Posted by: Sharon Orr (Friend) on: Jan 08, 2017
