Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFLORENCE KRYZANOWSKI (nee OSTAFIJCZUK) March 20, 1925 - January 2, 2017 On January 2, 2017, at the Misericordia Health Centre, Florence passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was predeceased by her husband Michael Kryzanowski; daughter Bernadette Cottes (Reece); parents Nicolas and Teenie Ostafijczuk; siblings Mary Peters, Rose Hrynyk, and Nicolas Ost. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Elizabeth (Andy) Quatember; grandchildren Sarah (Cody) Reece, Eric (Stefanie) Reece; son-in-law Lawrence Cottes; nephews Ken Peters and Herbert Hrynuk; family friend Gwen Higham, as well as numerous, extended family members. Florence was born and raised in the North End of Winnipeg on 912 Manitoba Ave. She attended and graduated from Isaac Newton School. Florence began working at Canada Packers in 1942. She worked first on the comptometer machine and then in the invoice department. In 1945 she left Packers to work at CNR in the payroll department. Florence met Mike at a bowling banquet at Holy Ghost Church, then later married in 1948. They welcomed daughters Bernadette in 1955 and Elizabeth in 1961. Florence loved teaching her daughters how to bake, clean, excel in school, follow the Golden Rule, and of course spot the bargains. Florence was elected President of the Catholic Women's League in 1967 and 1968, volunteered at the library and organized Spring Teas at King Edward School. She had many hobbies which included reading, crocheting, crafting, gardening, canning, cooking, and playing rumoli with the ladies in the neighbourhood. Florence knew Grand Forks and the deals it had to offer like the back of her hand. She often spoke of her dream destination, Hawaii, which she visited twice. Florence was a feisty character who you could always count on for an honest opinion of anything. Many thanks to her home care workers; especially Yemi, Bola, and Mary. Florence suffered a stroke in May 2015 and as a result, was placed in the care of the Misericordia Health Centre. We are grateful for the care and support given to Florence by the many health care professionals on Cornish 6. A service will be held January 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodière Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
