Gene was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He married the love of his life Alice Jacqueline Cole in 1960 and raised their two children in many places across Canada and Europe. Gene followed in his father's footsteps and served in the Canadian Armed Forces where he was a brave and loyal soldier for 25 years. After retirement from the Army he joined a large Medical Supply Company as a Warehouse Manager and worked there until he retired again in 1995. He is survived by his daughter, Debbie and son-in-law Dale, considered to be a second daughter Kelly; son Tim; grandchildren, Jenna (Shawn), Robert, Richard (Ketchie), Kaylynn, Kenzie (Elana), Michelle; great-granddaughter (Kyla); stepsisters, Marlene (Ron); Darlene (Wayne); and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Gene was predeceased by his wife, Alice; our beloved Kurtis; father Jack; mother Ethel Mae; step father Bob; brother Merelyn and sister-in-law Jean. Gene will be remembered for his amazing smile, great sense of humor, and imaginative storytelling. He was a bright man who could teach himself almost anything. He taught himself how to play the guitar and mouth organ, received his pilot's license, and created beautiful furniture throughout his life. He was also exceptionally mechanically inclined and a creative artist. He loved travelling throughout North America in his RV and spending his winters in Arizona. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital Emergency, 6E MED and ICU departments for their compassionate care. A celebration of Gene's and his wife Alice's lives will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Glen Lawn Funeral home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Interment to follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
