ALBERT (RED) EDWARD BILLETT January 8, 1928 - March 20, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and uncle in his home in Winnipeg. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Carol, granddaughter Olivia, daughter-in-law Donna, many nieces and nephews residing across Canada, sister-in-law Rosemarie Lebane, brother-in-law Don Ward, and numerous friends. Albert was predeceased by the love of his life and wife Joanne in 2014, son Brent in 2000, his six sisters Doris, Vera, Gladys, Hazel, Meryl, and Joan, his two brothers Percy and Sidney, and his parents Percival Sidney and Violet Grace. Dad was born in New Brunswick, Canada, and during his youth the Billetts resided in Halifax and Amherst, Nova Scotia. In 1947 dad joined the RCMP and was stationed in Winnipeg, Ottawa, and rural Manitoba (Sprague, Thompson, Brandon, and Dauphin). One of his memorable times early on in the RCMP was his participation in the Musical Ride which toured North America and turned him into a lover of horses. Horses continued to play significant roles in his and Joanne's lives for many years. In fact, they first met at the stables where Joanne kept her horse. They always had a dog or three and the odd cat. Dad retired from the RCMP in 1974 and settled in Winnipeg. After that first retirement, dad started working for the Manitoba Attorney General's Department in Human Resources where he worked until his second retirement in 1994. Dad was a believer that giving to community, family, and others kept one young at heart, mentally healthy and loved. He gave of himself wherever he saw a need that he could help (organizing chapters of Pony Club International and 4H clubs for youth, a Kinsmen Club member, a Knight of Columbus, an active church member at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church). Dad loved to sing; his lovely baritone voice provided welcome entertainment at many gatherings and in many choirs over the years. A funeral service followed by interment will be held on Monday, March 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.
