Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGAIL ELLEN THOMPSON Gail Thompson passed away at Neepawa Hospital on Sunday, March 19, 2017. She was born on October 8, 1941 in Winnipegosis, Manitoba, the second oldest of eight children, to Melvin Morris and Mildred Anderson. In 1949 the family moved from a nearby farm to the town of Fork River, Manitoba where she attended the four room school. Gail took a secretarial course in Dauphin and then moved to Winnipeg where she began work with the Provincial Water Control Branch in 1960. In 1963 she married Marshall Thompson and soon became the family breadwinner while he attended university. While with the government Gail rose through the ranks to become secretary for the director of operations. In 1970 she left work and began her new career as mother and homemaker. In 1976 the family, which now included Roy and Neal, moved to Neepawa, Manitoba which she called home for the rest of her life. After settling in Neepawa Gail took up golfing, curling and, what was to become her passion, gardening. She did volunteer work for any organization that asked for her help, such as Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed reading, doing the daily crossword and cryptoquote puzzles and looking through her many cookbooks for the perfect recipe. Loved by all in her immediate and extended family, Gail will always be remembered for her warmth, charm and the serenity with which she accepted all of life's joys and burdens. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Elaine (Norm), and brother Nelson (Joan). Surviving are her husband Marshall, sons Roy (Michelle) and Neal (Tami), grandsons William and Alexander, brothers Willard (Lynne), Douglas (Glenndalyn), and sisters Judith (Ed), Karen (Mel) and Nola (Ron). A family memorial celebration will be held at a later date. Friends who wish, may make contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society.
